After a gap often years finally open head surgery have started at the Jawaharal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal. This just another feather in the cap of the Honble CM who is also the chairman of JNIMS. The Chief Minister did the right thing by fecilitating the young Neurosurgon Dr. S. Parkinson to his chamber by rewarding him with a cheque of Rs 50,000 which . Dr. S. Parkinson in turn donated it to JNIMS to buy neurosurgical equipments. All these are good gestures. This is also a very big relieve to the poor patients who cannot afford such treatment in the private clinics.. Neurosurgical problems like BP strokes, accidents etc are very common and they require immediate treatment. As the treatment are highly expensive in the private clinics many poor patients are deprived of the treatment and let to themselves. With the posting of Dr. S. Parkinson as a neurosurgeon in JNIMS, the first head surgery has started on a patient having left sided subdural haemorrage by doing a Burr hole Surgery which cost only 15,000 rupees while it would have cost at least one to two lakh in a private clinic. The academic background of Dr. Parkinson having passed MS from PGI Chandigarh and MCh Neurosurery from the All India Instiutue of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, the most prestigious Institute of the country only confirm his excellence in the field. What was also very encouraging was that the whole team of JNIMS from the Director, Medical Superintendent, Head of Dept, Anesthesiologist etc was seen supporting Dr. Parkinson while conducting the operation. This only shows their commitment towards the issue. The shortage of medical equipments to do major head surgery as stated by the doctors needs to be addressed immediately in the public interest .Health is a priority sector.
