1st Khelo India School Games Manipur girls to meet Haryana in final clash

IMPHAL, Feb 7 : The U-17 Manipur girls team edged out West Bengal 3-1 today to book their place in the final of the 1st Khelo India School Games football competition organised under the aegis of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in New Delhi.
Th Babysana scored a brace in this crucial match to give Manipur a place in the final. She opened the account early in the 4th minute through an assist from Kanchan while her second goal came in the 34th minute via a penalty kick. S Lynda Kom struck the last goal for the State in the 81st minute.
They will lock horns with Haryana tomorrow at 2 pm in the final.
Boxing: 10 boxers advance into the finals 10 boxers from the State, 8 girls and 2 boys, have booked their place in the finals at the boxing event of the 1st Khelo India School Games.
Tinmila Doungel dumped Arshdeep of Chandigarh in the semi-final bout for girls 48 kg to mark her entry into the final. In the 52 kg semi-final bout, Babyrosisana Chanu got better of Sandeep Kaur of Punjab to enter final. Sanathoi Hemam (54 kg) also cruised into the final after she overcame Rudrika Kundu of Haryana while Huidrom Ambeshwari Devi (54 kg) beat Yogita Chouhan of Haryana.
In the semi-final bout of the 57 kg category, Ashalata Chanu outshoned Preetin Dhahiya of Haryana to storm into the final. In the 60 kg semi-final bout, Alena Devi beat Sakshi of UP while Menaka Devi defeated Aashreya Dinesh Naik of Goa. The last girl finallist was Sanamacha Chanu who beat Menka of Himachal Pradesh.
M Puja of the State settled for a bronze today.
Two boys who made it into the finals are Nongdamkhomba (60 kg) and N Bobosana (63 kg). Md Nazimuddin claimed a bronze after going down in the semi-final.
Weightlifting: Warepam Sanamacha clinches gold Weightlifter Warepam Sanamacha Devi bagged another gold medal for Manipur in the 69 kg category. She lifted a total of 160 kg (Snatch-70 kg, Clean and Jerk- 90) to win the gold medal.
In the boys’ 85 kg category, Soubam Arbind settled for a silver by lifting a total of 245 kg (Snatch-110 kg, Clean and Jerk- 135 kg).
Judo: Ch Rebina strikes gold Ch Rebina fetched a gold for Manipur in the 57 kg category while Th Joyshree Devi bagged a bronze medal in the 52 kg category.
Th Abungcha added another silver in the State’s tally in the 66 kg category for boys.
