For elections to 3 NE States, Biswa Sarma works out BJP’s strategy

Guwahati, Jan 20 :Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh won, the BJP is now eyeing the North East, where it hopes to win three out of three States in Assembly elections next month. Elections in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland were announced on Thursday and Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Finance Minister and the BJP’s North East strategist, says his plans are in place.

Ukhrul, Jan 20 (ANI):To promote, preserve and reinvigorate the culture of the Tangkhul Naga community in Manipur, a cultural festival named ‘Loree Luita Phanit cum Hampai Festival’, will be celebrated at Longpi Kajui village of the State’s Ukhrul district between January 28 and 30.

IMPHAL, Jan 20: Additional Director General of Police, Narcotics and PRTS, Indore Varun Kapoor who is also a regular columnist of The Sangai Express has been awarded the 8th India Digital Award for the Best Cyber Security Capacity Building for 2017.
The award was handed over to Varun Kapoor by the Internet and Mobile Association of India, the apex digital think tank and policy making body at New Delhi recently.

IMPHAL, Jan 20: After a gap of 86 years, Oriental White Ibis locally known as Mayang Urok was sighted during Loktak Water Bird Census conducted today at Loktak Lake and Tangjeng Pat.
The water bird census was carried jointly by the Forest Department’s Wildlife Wing and the Indian Bird Conservation Network in association with local clubs.
Altogether 250 enumerators counted water birds at 50 places of Loktak Lake and Tangjeng Pat.
Citing records, Indian Bird Conservation Network Manipur coordinator RK Birjit said that Oriental White Ibis was sighted in Manipur by Hume in 1888 and Higgins in 1932.
Altogether six Oriental White Ibis which are highly endangered and included in the IUCN’s red list were sighted today.
However, the number of water birds which migrate to Loktak Lake and surrounding areas during winter season has declined considerably this year on account of the high water level of the lake and fishing during night using LED bulbs.

IMPHAL, Jan 20 : A mild earthquake of 4.2 magnitude with its epicentre at India (Manipur)-Myanmar border jolted the State this afternoon.
Another earthquake having its epicentre at Dubri, Assam measuring 4.6 magnitude hit the North East region at around 6 am today, according to information received from the Earth Sciences Department, Manipur University.
