Respect indigenous rights

Sir,

Kindly review the repeated memorandum we have submitted to you on 29-08-2010 and 23-09-2010 whereof detailed reasons were stated as to why and how Census 2011 had been conducted and taken under Rural in respect of Moreh. The Moreh Small Town Committee which was once formed could not serve the interest of the indigenous tribal people who formed the majority population of Moreh. Hence, the small town committee was abolished way back on 31st July, 1991 in a public meeting at the Chandel District Headquarters.

Can we call it democracy when the will of the majority is not regarded? That, following the will and wishes of the people, the whole population of Moreh have been availing the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) since the last three years.

We shall remain firm in our commitment to ensure that Moreh stands under Rural status as it is the will of the indigenous majority denizens.

Therefore, it has been demanded to you:

  • Accept the factual Census figure in respect of Moreh and Categorised as Rural
  • Intimate and submit the Census enumeration/report in respect of Moreh as submitted to you to the State Government and furnish the reality as to the unac-ceptability of categorising Moreh under Urban status.

In the event of failing to consider our democratic rights as demanded above, we shall be compelled to apprise all the loopholes and misdeeds to the Union Government and resort to any form of agitation and the consequent shall be the responsibility of your department in particular and the State Govt. in general.

Yours faithfully,

Jangmang Haokip
