IMPHAL, Feb 6 : SSU, Singjamei powered back from one goal down in the first half to beat FC Kangchup by 3-1 goals today in an entertaining second round clash of the ongoing 61st Sir Churachand Singh, KCSI, CBE Memorial Football Tournament 2018-19 organised by All Manipur Football Association at Artificial Turf Ground, Khuman Lampak, today.
Though SSU enjoyed most of the possession, FC Kangchup also displayed an attacking football today and took a 1-0 lead in the first half thanks to a goal by Lamminlen Kipgen four minutes before the break.
SSU who were missing their form in the first half made amends after the restart and managed to get the equaliser when L Roshan beat past FC Kangchup keeper in the 56th minute of the match.
There were no looking back for SSU after the goal as they mounted more pressure against FC Kangchup who looked exhausted as the game progressed.
SSU were able to seize the opponents area in the latter part of the game and it was Th Roshan who found the breakthrough in the 78th minute before grabbing another in the 87th minute of the match and finished the game 3-1 in his team’s favour.
The remaining matches of the tournament have been postponed until further notice owing to participation of State players, featuring in CC Meet teams, in the 2nd Dr T Ao Centenary North East International NEC Gold Cup Football Championship 2019 (U-21) to be held in Guwahati and National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy 2018-19 to be held in Mizoram.
