Tingbi saved
IMPHAL, Mar 12 : One Tingbi (Lesser Whistling Teal) was rescued by a team of IRB personnel from some children who caught the wild duck after a hot chase from Uripok-RIMS crossing this morning.
This reporter handed over the wild bird to Iroishemba Zoological Garden.
NSCN (K) flays resolution
JIRIBAM, Mar 12: The deputy kilonser of information, public relation and NGO for GPRN/NSCN (K) Wilungbou Newmai has flayed resolution of the AZSU adopted at its 31st Dimki session regarding disassociation of Puimai students from AZSU.
He termed the resolution very unfortunate saying that Puimai tribe is very much part of the Zeliangrong since time immemorial. He also urged the AZSU to review the resolution in this regard in the interest of the Zeliangrong people.
Secretariat staff appeal
IMPHAL, Mar 12 : Taking serious note over the remarks of the Chief Minister on the floor of the Assembly that the State Govern- ment would not be able to consider the demand for payment of arrears of the Central 6th Pay Commission, an emergency execu- tive meeting of the Manipur Secretariat Services Association has appealed to review the stand of the Government. The meeting further resolved that the Association would be calling on the Chief Minister, the GAD Minister concerned, Chief Secre-tary, Commissioner (GAD) and Principal Secretary (Finance) to discuss the matter very soon.

IGAR (S) visits
IMPHAL, Mar 12: IGAR (S) Maj Gen CA Krishnan landed Churachandpur on his maiden visit to the district today. The General Officer was given a colourful and warm traditional welcome by the locals of the tribal dominated district when he landed by a helicopter at the helipad of the Hqs 27 Sector Assam Rifles.
According to a press release issued PRO Hqs IGAR (S), 27 Sector AR Commander Brig Surendra Mehta along with his top notch officers received the IGAR (S). Maj Gen CA Krishnan not only interacted with the locals and soldiers of the Sector but also visited garrisons of 46 Assam Rifles and 30 Assam Rifles during his visit. Showing goodwill gesture to the local populace from Assam Rifles, the General Officer presented two cimputer sets each to Only Grace Orphanage and Grace Bible College.
He also gifted 24 water tanks and sports items to the villagers of Beheng village and books to Thinghat village library, added the press release.
Sit-in-protest
IMPHAL, Mar 12: Locals of Sagolband Tera Yengkhom Leirak today staged a sit-in-protest in denunciation of bomb attack on the residence of Lamjaotongba Gram Panchayat Pradhan Thokchom Sumanta. Two unidentified persons who came by a scooter lobbed a hand grenade at Sumanta’s residence last night at around 9:30, said family members. Police retrieved the unexploded bomb yesterday itself.
Dog show on March 24
IMPHAL, Mar 12: A dog show will be organised on March 24 during four-day North East Agri Fair 2010 to be kicked on March 23 at Central Agricultural University, Iroisemba. The show will be conducted in three categories as: Large, Small and Local breeds, said a press release.

IMPHAL, Mar 12: To recruit 300 volunteers for the Commonwealth Games from amongst students residing at Delhi, an interview would be held at Manipur Bhavan, New Delhi on March 20. Interested Manipuri students staying at Delhi may join it after submitting four passport photographs each to the Manipur Bhavan Resident Commissioner on March 20. It will be conducted by the Union Ministry of Sports.
Bodies flay injuring AG
IMPHAL, Mar 12:People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) Manipur expressed resentment on the incident of injuring Advocate General N Koteshwar by a bullet of a Cabinet Minister.
Condemning the incident, a press release issued by General Secretary Gaidon Kamei said that the SPF Government and Chief Minister Ibobi have lost credibility and people’s faith due to such incidents.
The killings of Thomas L Kamei, Rabina and Sanjit testify the severe insecurity faced by common people, the press release said.
Expressing concern on the incident of injuring Koteshwar, Senior Citizens for Society has said that causing bullet injury to a person is a serious matter which cannot be brushed aside. The senior citizens also demanded for thorough investigation of the incident by an independent body and book the culprits. The SCFS also pledged support to the demands of the bar associations of the State in this connection.
Prog on Labour Law held

IMPHAL, Mar 12: A day-long programme on 'fulfil labour law, right and duty' was held at Manipur Press Club today under the aegis of Manipur Senmit Ehou Lup.
Speaking at the occasion, Inspector (Rural Labour) of the Labour Department L Priyokumar Singh expressed resentment that the government is yet to work out a viable mechanism to address problems faced periodically by labourers in both the private and public sector.
Inaction of the Government is not only depriving the worker community their deserved rights but is also denying them wages commensurate with their effort.
He further expressed that inspite of the Government revising wages every five years the ground reality is that labourers in Manipur are paid the least compared to other States. The Inspector, nevertheless pointed out that Labour Department has been extending solace to the labourers and their families under existing Gratuity Act when workers are either maimed or killed in mishaps on working days. he further explained that gratuity is given to the labourer of both private and public sector who had been working for atleast 10 years.
Body disposal by March 15
IMPHAL, Mar 12: The dead body recovered from Loushipat Atoukhong Uku Macha on the intervening night of March 9 and 10 is still lying unclaimed at RIMS morgue. According to a press release issued by Kakching police station O/C, the medium built wheatish complexion person stands around 160 cm. The individual sports tatoos that read as ‘Purnima XX’ on the left wrist. The oval faced person has black and short hair. He wears a cotton blue black full shirt with a half jeans pant, bluish in colour. The press release further said that the corpse would be disposed off if it is not claimed by March 15.
Two UG cadres arrested
IMPHAL, Mar 12: Imphal East district police commandos arrested one KLA cadre namely, Thangpilen Haokip alias Rudy alias nanao alias SM Kuki (22) s/o Chabungbam Inaocha Singh of KS Moullen village, Saikul, a/p Motbung Bazar from New Checkon on March 9, said a press release of Imphal East SP. It added that in another incident yesterday, the district police commandos nabbed one PULF cadre namely, Md Alimuddin alias Shaolin (23) s/o Md Shalimuddin of Kwakta Khuman from KR Lane.
Trinamool Cong committee
IMPHAL, Mar 12: Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress has convened a meeting in connection with the ensuing ADC polls today. The meeting resolved to form an election committee with RK Dorendra as Chairman and Lien Gangte as Convenor for the said polls. Eleven other party workers have been appointed as members of the committee.
