Gurbachand Jagat being sworn in as Governor
IMPHAL, Jul 23 : The newly appointed Governor of Manipur Gurbachand Jagat was formally sworn in and administered the oath of office and secrecy by the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court J Chelameswor during an impressive function held at Raj Bhawan today.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, his Council of Ministers, Assembly Speaker Dr Budhichandra, Deputy Speaker Shyamkumar, Opposition leader Radha- binod Koijam, MLAs, DGP and other top officials of civil and security forces participated in the function.
Keeping with tradition, contingents of the 5th and 6th Bn IRB offered guard of honour to the new Governor after being sworn in.
Earlier, upon his arrival at Tulihal Airport at around 2.30 pm, Gurbachand Jagat was accorded a warm welcome by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, his Council of Ministers, Deputy Speaker Shyamkumar, MLAs and other top officials of police, civil and army.
Guard of honour was also given to him by the personnel of 5th and 6th IRB with SP of CMTW Dhana-kumar as parade comman- der.
Talking to mediapersons after being sworn in as the Governor of Manipur, Gurbachand expressed happiness over his appointment as the Governor of Manipur, which he described a land of rich cultural heritage.
He also expressed his desire for taking up various welfare measures for the people of the State.
