A Cabinet meeting held on June 14 has approved fixing the date for the 5th General Panchayat election. According to a reliable source, the Draft Electoral Roll for the said election will most probably be released by the end of this month while the election notification might be issued by the end of July. There is a high possibility that the Panchayat election could be held in the middle week of September.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs Gen (retd) VK Singh would land here on June 27 on a two-day visit to the State. Apart from inspecting the passport office opened at Imphal, VK Singh would also hold a meeting with Chief Minister N Biren.
