Direct flights to Thailand from Guwahati in the offing

GUWAHATI, Jan 2 :Direct flights to Thailand from Guwahati will start from this year, which will make it easier for the people from North East to visit Thailand. To further boost tourism, from May 3rd, a 3-day Northeast India Festival will also be held for the first time in Bangkok.
Other measures (sponsored by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation), on the sidelines of five nation ASEAN car rally, scheduled to be held in January, will help in boosting the tourist arrivals and departures. All these measures were taken into consideration after Tourism Authority of Thailand, New Delhi, represented by its Director Isra Stapanaseth, and Information officer Deepak Arora, met Assam Tourism Development Corporation tour operators and officials to facilitate tourism between Thailand and Assam.
Stapanaseth appealed to people of Assam for Thai visits by saying, “We have a lot in common with the people from this region. We share a common culture, food habits and tastes. The Thai language is very similar to the Tai-Ahom language. We should start with cultural bonding, and getting to know each other. It is a two-way process. Tourism will increase automatically.”
Thailand is taking steps to position itself as the most favoured destination for Indian tourists. For this, direct flights to Bangkok are being introduced from tier 2 and tier 3 cities like Jaipur, Chandigarh and Bhubane-shwar. At the same time Thai Tourism is working towards presenting Thailand to Indian tourists as a destination for weddings, golf- ing, honeymoon, and family holidays.
Special events such as a Wedding Mart and Luxury Roadshow at New Delhi and Mumbai will be held in April, ASEAN Tourism Forum will be held from January 31 to February 2, and a tourism roadshow will take place in Jaipur and Kolkata in June. Agencies
