IMPHAL, Feb 22: A team of Cabinet Ministers led by the Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today assessed progress of canal construction work at Leishang Hiden in Canchipur area.

Besides taking stock of the canal construction and garden development works on both sides of the canal, the Chief Minister, accompanied by Works Minister K Ranjit and Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board Bijoy Koijam, also walked on foot through the entire length of the canal stretching from near MU main gate in Canchipur upto the Lilong river.

PWD Chief Engineer and top officials of other departments were also present during the inspection of the canal project, for which work commenced in June 2011.

Shiv Sena strikes anti-repoll stand

IMPHAL, Feb 22 : Siv Sena, Churachandpur unit has cautioned the Election Commission of India that it will join other political parties in launching a State-wide agitation if the commission goes ahead with the decision of conducting repolls in the State. A press release issued by the Convenor of the unit expressed apprehension that the incumbent Govt might exercise their money and muscle power if repolls are held.

The party suggested the ECI to rescind/discard bogus photos instead to holding repolls. The party alleged that the voices of some electorates were heard while it was ignored in some areas. It is also perplexing that though the ECI proposed to use camera in all the polling booths, mobile phones were used instead, it added.

Body disposal

IMPHAL, Feb 22: The male dead body which was found inside the public toilet located at Pallel at round 2.30 pm of February 20 would be disposed off if not claim on or before February 25, informed a release issued by IO, Kakching police station. The dead body is lying unclaimed in the mortuary of JNIMS porompat. The dead body appeared to be slim, wheatish complexion, medium hair with oval face and having tat-tooed on upper left arms and back of the palm.

144 CrPC imposed at Spt Hqtrs

IMPHAL, Feb 22:  Prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC has been imposed in and around Mini-Stadium, Senapati District Headquarters with effect from February 20 till election process is over, according to an order issued by the District Magistrate, Sena-pati. The order has been issued in view of the sensitivity attached with EVMs and other election related materials of three Assembly segments of the 10th Legislative Assembly which are stored in the Mini-stadium.

Workshop for Exe Dirs/BDOs held

IMPHAL, Feb 22: One-day State level orientation workshop on Lab-to-Land Initiatives for Executive Directors (DRDA) and BDOs was held today at State Guest House Sanjenthong under the aegis of State Institute of Rural Development, Manipur. Giving the opening remark, Principal Secretary (RD & PR), Ameishing Luikham said the workshop has been organised as part of Bharat Nirman Volunteers Campaign. 

The programme was also attended, among others, by DC of Imphal East RK Dinesh; Director of RD and PR W Bhaktaraj and Principal of State Institute of Rural Development, Manipur KS Lungrie. DC of Imphal East, RK Dinesh spoke on mobilisation and management of BNVs while DC of Churachandpur, Jacintha Lazarus dwelt on roles and responsibilities of Executive Director/BDO under Lab-to-Land initiatives.

RPF/PLA clarifies

IMPHAL, Feb 22: In connection with a press release of IGAR (s) which was published in the local dailies on February 20 regarding the arrest of one Khangenbam Ranjit (46) s/o Ibohal Singh of Thoubal Athokpam Mayai Leikai who was arrested by 27 Assam Rifles of 9th Sector under IGAR (S) from Wangjing, proscribed RPF/PLA clarified that Ranjit was not related with the RPF and its armed wing PLA in any manner, informed a statement issued by chief department of publicity of the group Taohangsu Heiremcha. It further said that AR’s information regarding the arrested person’s involvement in the activities of the group is baseless.

ZSUM wishes students

IMPHAL, Feb 22: The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Manipur (ZSUM) has extended its best wishes to all candidates, particularly students from the Zeliangrong communities, for the ensuing HSLC and HSSLC exams. JIRIBAM, Feb 22: The Oinamlong Circle Village Chiefs’ Association has flayed the Electricity Department for erratic power supply in villages like Kaiphundai, Nungkam, Oinamlong and Kaimai since a week back.

Secretary of the Association, M Agui alleged that the Section Officer namely Sanayaima of the department who is in-charge of Jiribam-Kaimai section has been found flirting with some widows instead of attending to his assigned duty much to the discomfort of the power deprived villagers. He also warned of massive movement against the department if the authority concerned fails to take up punitive action against the erring SO and restore regular power supply at the earliest.

World Thinking Day observed

IMPHAL, Feb 22: The Manipur State Bharat Sco-uts and Guides observed World Thinking Day today at its State Headquarters, Langol Games Village.

The day was observed in connection with the birth anniversary of Boy Scouts founder, Lord Baden Po-well. The occasion was graced by Education Director W Rajen Singh as the guest-in-chief while the function was presided over by State Chief Commission-er, MSBSG Th Ibopishak Singh.

The function was also attended by Coordinator of NYK, Gourakishore Singh. The observance, which also coincided with the National Integration Camp organised by NYK, witnessed the participation of 200 volunteers, a press release said.

Ganja worth over Rs 150 Cr burnt

Imphal, Mar 22 : Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) destroyed 5696 kilograms of ganja worth over Rs 150 crores in the international market at Keithelmanbi in Senapati district today.

The contraband item was burnt in the presence of  a high level Government drug disposal committee including  its Chairman RK  Sahu , who is  the Bureau’s Deputy Director General (Eastern region) .

Tourism dept inspects Imp-Moreh circuit
