The other day on the way to a work I went to Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) with a friend for his medical check-up in the Dental College, RIMS. There was not very many patients, but the patients have to wait for quite some time. And it was found that a few doctors were waiting for the dental chairs to be empty to treat the patients. The fact is without dental chair a dentist cannot treat the patient. And interestingly there were quite a few empty chairs, but the empty chair was reported to be not in working condition. And it seemed the principal of the Dental College reported the matter to the Director RIMS for doing the needful. However there was no action for quite some time and hence the chairs were lying idle. And hence the patients have to wait unnecessarily.
Some weeks or probably a month or so ago this writer wrote an open letter to the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur drawing her kind attention to the fact that the Director RIMS, is found deficient in discharging his duty in matters of maintenance and cleanliness in the premier institute.
To cite an example, the letter had pointed out that some 20 thousands odd applicants for a vacancy of some two hundred odd Group – D posts who will be doing cleaning and other menial jobs in RIMS are being denied the chance to serve RIMS by the Director by sitting on the files probably for his own reasons for his own personal reasons.
Whereas RIMS is reported to be short of cleaning and other menial job type staff and whereas, it is reported that the Director is outsourcing the cleaning job to some private agency.
And on further enquiry it is learnt that the Director reportedly shuttles between Imphal and Delhi every now and then reportedly not on official duty but for reasons not known to any of his staff. And there is no one to question the conduct of the Director in Manipur.
Whether he goes for vacation or anything, the writer is not interested, in it. But what the writer is concerned is the public interests, where the Director sits on the files for recruitment of staff etc. which will serve the hospital to be like a premier institute and where the premier institute should maintain a clean campus by putting sufficient cleaning staff, etc.
Therefore in public interests, may the undersign, again draw the attention of the Hon’ble Governor so that the Director of RIMS, who is all in all of this premier institute, function responsibly so that we may be proud of RIMS to be the true premier medical institution of the region.
