Lottery for school admissions

IMPHAL, Feb 1: Lottery for schools’ admission were held today amidst criticism and acclamation from the masses.

It has been reported that 2000 students applied for admission in Little Flower School, out of which 100 students each were selected for class I and II through lottery.

St Joseph School authority confirmed that out of the seats available for the lottery admission, some were reserved for the Catholic children and those of the teachers’ and neighbourhood area. In Catholic School, Canchipur, 140 seats each for boys and girls were selected through lottery. Some people are against the conduct of lottery while some said it is more reliable since the entrance exams can overburden the children. It has been also opined that online system to get the admission form will be much easier than to form a long queues under the scorching sun.
