Manipur to meet Tamil Nadu in final

IMPHAL, Feb 12 : Manipur women edged out Railways by a narrow 2-1 margin in the 2nd semi-final of the 23rd Senior Women’s National Football Championship at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack today to set up final date with Tamil Nadu on February 14.
Ng Bala Devi opened the account for Manipur before Kamala Devi of Railways equalised the score. Ng Bala headed in a late winner and gave Manipur the final berth.
Both teams started off the game on a bright note with fine passes and interceptions to go neck to neck. Manipur found the opener when Ng Bala unleashed a powerful shot from inside the box past Railways’ custodian in the 13th minute. Kamala of Railways unexpectedly came up with a fine run the very next minute and struck the equaliser to lock the score at 1-1.
Both teams tried hard to break the deadlock in the latter part of the first half but could not make any changes.
The second half also witnessed some fine runs on either side but their defence line played well to deter all offensive moves being made. Manipur raced ahead in the dying minutes and it was Bala again who headed in the winner in the 85th minute after a goal mouth melee breaking the deadlock. Railways had no chance to restore parity as it was too late ultimately giving Manipur the final berth.
I Premeshwari was declared player of the match and honoured with a check of Rs 10,000.
