Reliance Jio free wi fi at MU campus

IMPHAL, Feb 27: Reliance Jio has signed an agreement with Manipur University authorities to set up free wi-fi service inside the University’s campus.
The agreement was signed between MU Registrar, Professor M Shyamkesho and Reliance Jio Infocom Ltd vice president RV Balasubramaniam Iyer, in the presence of the University’s VC, Professor Adya Prasad Pandey.
Speaking to media persons, the VC stated that even though wi-fi service has been available inside the campus for some time, the new wi-fi service by Reliance Jio will be the first free wi-fi service.
The agreement is for a duration of three years. Apart from free wi-fi service, Reliance Jio will also provide free skill development training as well as offer job opportunities for the students, the VC mentioned and added that the rapid rise and penetration of an MNC like Reliance Jio is a boon for the people and the students of the State.
Professor Adya Prasad Pandey said that a smart class has been established for 17 Departments of the University for the first phase.
These smart classes will also supplement the Indian Science Congress. Smart classes will be set up for the remaining Departments in the second phase, he added.
On the other hand, RV Balasubramaniam Iyer said that reaching Manipur University is also a great opportunity for Reliance Jio.
He narrated that Reliance Jio was launched on September 5, 2016, which also happened to be Teachers’ Day.
Just 100 days after launch, Reliance Jio was able to get 100 million subscribers/customer, thus beating the record for the most numbers of customers acquired by any digital company anywhere in the world.
He claimed that before Reliance Jio came, India ranked 150th in the use of mobile devices for accessing the internet.
However, within the first 100 days after the launch of Reliance Jio, India shot to the top, even beating China and USA, Balasubramaniam claimed.
The citizens of the country are utilising the mobile data in positive ways. 32 educational DTH channels under the Ministry of Human Resources Development, known as Swayam Prabha, can be viewed through Jio TV.
The vice president also pointed out that even if people missed any of the programmes, they can be viewed at a later time again.
Replying to a query, Balasubramaniam said that various works have been taken up to improve the pathetic mobile network signal condition of the State.
Numerous mobile towers will be erected and connected using OFC network, he added.
