DIMAPUR, Jan 17 : Former Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio who is also a sitting Lok Sabha MP has joined the newly floated Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) hours after resigning from the Naga People’s Front (NPF).
In his resignation letter to the president of NPF, Neiphiu Rio did not mention the reasons for the act.
“I write this to inform you that I hereby resign from the primary, active and all other membership of the NPF party with immediate effect,” he stated in his resignation letter.
Meanwhile, the NDPP said that they appealed Neiphiu Rio to join the party and lead it in the forthcoming Assembly elections which the latter accepted.
It can be noted here that, Neiphiu Rio had clarified on January 2 that he had nothing to do with the newly floated regional party, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP).
The January 2 clarification of Neiphiu Rio came as there were “abounding speculations” about his alleged deals with the newly floated regional party, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP).
Neiphiu Rio had said in the clarification that in the course of the reconciliation process of NPF factions, “my suspension from the Naga People’s Front (NPF) party was revoked on December 14, 2017 to clear all misunderstandings and therefore, it is my natural choice to remain with the NPF to strengthen the party and serve the people”.
Meanwhile, according to the NDPP, Neiphiu Rio acknowledged that the new regional party, NDPP, was “formed to bring a positive change in the Naga society and implement the vision that ensures transparency in governance, implement progressive development and combat corruption”.
The NDPP appealed the people to join hands with the party to “bring lasting peace, positive change and inclusive development in our society”.
