THOUBAL, Feb 8 : The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) Thoubal District Committee today condemned the ban imposed on the functioning of Ruda Academy, Thoubal district and denounced the alleged threat to use arms against the students of the school by KCP (MC) Progressive, a banned outfit.
Yesterday, the students of the school had protested the ban imposed by the outfit demanding free education. The outfit had imposed the ban on the functioning of the school in connection with a report on January 27 about 13 students fleeing the school boarding.
AMSU in a statement issued today said it condemns the ban imposed on the school. It appealed the outfit to lift the ban to ensure free education for the greater good of the students of the school.
Board examination is at the doorstep and such ban on the school will jeopardize the future of the students and undermine the very idea of free and quality education, the statement said.
Condemning the alleged threat to use arms against students, AMSU said that it is not against any group or individual but is against any external force that threatens the education environment. AMSU has always been a union of the students and will always stand strong for the students and free education, the statement said. Stating that there may be faults on the part of the school authority and students as well, AMSU in its statement said that all the problems can be solved through dialogues in a peaceful way. It appealed the outfit to refrain from issuing threats to the students. The students’ union further condemned the allegations of corruption filed against it by the outfit and demanded that a clear picture of the allegation be brought before the public. It was alleged that individual/s in AMSU had colluded with some imposter outfit to gain money out of the scandal that is going on in Ruda Academy. Refuting the allegation, AMSU asked the outfit to identify the individuals involved. AMSU will not tolerate baseless allegation against it, said the statement.
