Sub-juniors Girls Football Manipur set up summit clash with Odisha

IMPHAL, Jul 10: Manipur beat Himachal Pradesh by 3-2 goals in a closely contested semi-final match today to set up a final clash with Odisha of the Sub-junior Girls National Football Championship 2018-19 on July 12. The tournament is being organised under the aegis of All India Football Federation at Cuttack, Orissa since July 1 with 22 teams clustered into 7 groups participating in it.
Manipur pulled off a 3-2 win against Himachal Pradesh in the first semi-final match to meet Odisha in the final showdown. Odisha thrashed Kerala by 6-1 goals in the second semi-final match to secure a place in the final. S Lynda Kom scored the opener in the 41st after a stiff competition to hand Manipur a 1-0 lead in the first half. Lynda Kom then extended the lead to 2-0 when she fired in her second goal just two minutes into the second half. Himachal Pradesh however staged a strong fight back to equalise the score through Anju (67′, 75′).
The two sides fought hard for the winner in the latter part of the game and it was during the injury time that H Silky broke the deadlock to hand Manipur a 3-2 win and a place in the final.
