Priya wins runner-up prize

Imphal, May 14: Kongjengbam Priya has won the runner-up prize in the under-17 category of the PNB Metlife Junior Badminton Championship 2017 held in Hyderabad from 10th to 13th May, 2017.
She reached the final after defeating opponents from five states in the tournament but lost to Uthsava Palit of West Bengal.

International Badminton A Meiraba finishes in top three

IMPHAL, Apr 9 : Gifted shuttler A Meiraba who made his debut in the senior category at the 4th Yonex Sera Roza BTY Junior International Challenger 2017 at Thailand finished in the top three coming in at the third spot.
Making his debut in the senior’s category, the 14 years, 4 months old boy Meiraba fell to the top ranked player of Thailand Parajwata Thongnu 12-21, 18-21 in the semi-final, pushing him to the third spot.
Given a by in the first round, Meiraba steadily made his way to the semi-final stage beating Phajon Chongjup 21-11, 21-15 in the second round.
In the third round, the young shuttler from Manipur downed ninth ranked Thai player, Phatti Pratchpara Dron 21-19 and 21-17 and entered the quarter-final stage.
In the quarter final, Meira-ba defeated Thai Tutshapol Wicharpong 21-10 and 21-15 and reached the semi-final.
In the U-17 category of the same tournament, Meiraba managed to reach the quarter final stage.
Other than Meiraba, noted badminton player from Mani-pur Salam Bidyasagar also took part in the tournament and reached the pre-quarter final stage. Yengkhom Punshiba, another shuttler from the State managed to reach the third round in the U-17 category. In the U-17 doubles category, Yengkhom Punshiba and Salam Bidyasagar participated but fell in the first round.

Inter District Badminton c’ship ends

IMPHAL, Sep 7: O Aimson of BDBA beat W James of MPSC by sets of 2-1 to clinch the Men’s Single title of the 35th Inter District Badminton Championships today at Indoor hall, Kakching held under the aegis of Manipur Badminton Association. O Aimson also registered a straight set win over Mayanglambam Nicky to lift the U-19 Boy’s Single title.
At the same time, N Purnima of TDBA pipped Angita Naorem by straight set to claim the Women’s Single title.
K Nganba of ESU defeated Jomi Singam by 2-0 sets to claim the U-13 Boy’s Single while Vilinda Huidrom beat L Diana Devi by 2-0 sets to clinch the U-13 Girl’s Single title.
The final day also saw W James-M Somibala duo (MPSC/TDBA) registering a straight set win over Rk Cinir-Rk Miranda duo (MPSC) to claim the Mixed Double title. Jomi Singam-Sirzeet Moirangthem pair claimed the U-13 Boy’s Double title beating Ch Ritesh-K Nganba pair by straight set.
In the U-17 Boy’s Single, Punshiba Yengkhom (TDBA) retired after ceding a point to Bidyasagar Salam (IW).
Ksh Maheshwari (ESU) beat Vilinda Huidrom by straight set to claim U-15 Girl’s Single title. Ksh Maheshwari also registered a straight set win over K Priya of BDBA to lift the U-17 Girl’s Single title.
Angita Naorem beat N Purnima by set of 2-1 to claim the U-19 Girl’s Single title. K Dingku-Kh Manjit pair registered a straight set win over N Nandaraj-N Hitler pair to claim U-17 Boy’s Double title. K Dingku-Kh Manjit pair also registered a straight set win over H Sushilkumar-Kelvin Pheiroijam pair to lift the U-19 Boy’s Double title.
Bidyasagar Salam-Punshiba Yengkhom duo beat Konsam Sandeep-Talentsana RK pair by straight set to claim the U-15 Boy’s Double title.
RK Cinir-W James pair also wrapped up the day beating K Dingku-Kh Manjit pair by straight set to lift the Men’s Double title.
The closing ceremony was attended by MLA Md Fazur Rahim; M Inakhunbi Devi, Chairperson,  Kakching MC; H Ghyaneshwar Singh, senior VP, MBA and PS Devi, Councillor, Ward No 4 Kakching as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

MU Inter-College badminton MU, GP Women College clinch titles

IMPHAL, Aug 11: Manipur University clinched the men’s title of the RK Brojendro Singh Memorial MU Inter College Badminton tournament 2016-17 while the women’s title was lifted by GP Women’s College.
The final match of the tournament, organised by Manipur College under the aegis of MU Sports Committee, was played today at Manipur College Indoor hall.
In the women’s final, GP Women’s College defeated host Manipur College 2-0 while in the men’s final MU beat NB College 2-1 to claim the titles.
The closing ceremony was attended by Dr Ch Pradip Singh, Asst Director of Sports, MU and Dr RK Radhakishore Singh, Principal, Manipur College as the dignitaries.

MU Inter-College Badminton

Imphal, Aug 2 : The RK Brojen Singh Memorial MU Inter-College Badminton Tournament (Men & Women), organised by Manipur College, Singjamei will be held from August 9.
Intending colleges affiliated to Manipur University may submit the entries within August 7, said a press release issued by Manipur College.

Badminton coaches education prog

Imphal, Jul 13 : The 2nd Coaches Education Program (Level 1) Course, hosted by the Manipur Badminton Association under the aegis of Badminton Association of India with Badminton World Federation and Badminton Asia Confederation, began yesterday at MBA Indoor Stadium, Imphal.

Badminton Association of India president De Akhilesh Das Gupta attended the opening function as a presidium member.
Altogether 18 coaches from North East zone are participating in the said programme.
The programme is focused on basic coaching principles of – 1. What to coach – explaining the basic technical, tactical and physical elements.
2. How to coach – defining the basic elements of coaching methology.
3. Planning and Delivery – of progressive coaching sessions.
The eight days programme is being conducted under the supervision of Badminton world Federation officials Nikhil Chandra Dhar and Aaron Lee Inbaraj as tutors.

Meiraba bags silver in All India Jr Ranking Badminton Tourney

Imphal, June 25 : Maisnam Meiraba Luwang bagged a silver medal in the All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament (U-17 & U-19 years Boys & Girls), organised by the Kerala Badminton Association under the aegis of Badminton Association of India, today at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
In today’s final match, Meiraba lost 1-2 (22/24,21/17,16/21) against Kartikey Gulshan Kumar (Air India from Delhi).
Earlier in the first round, Meiraba defeated Sai Pratheek Krishna (KAK) 21/24,21-17.
He defeated Dattathreya Reddy Soma (AP) 19-21, 21-15, 21-16 in the second round.
In the pre-quarterfinal match, Meiraba clinched an easy 2-0 (21-10, 21-11) against Yovan Dabas (HAR).
Meiraba downed Akash Yadav (DLH) 21-14, 21-13 in the quarterfinal match.
In the semifinal match, Meiraba claimed a thrilling 21-18, 17-21, 12-21 over Jagadesh K (AP).
The tournament began from June 20.

Dinku, Manjit into doubles final

Imphal, June 18 : State shuttlers K Dinku Singh and Kh Manjit Singh entered the doubles final of the 15 Union Bank All India junior Ranking Badminton Tournament which began from June 14 at Bangalore.
Dinku and Manjit defeated Aman Raikwar and Yash Raikwar of Madhya Pradesh 21-13, 13-21, 21-17. They will be playing the final match tomorrow against Telangana, informed a statement issued by secretary in charge of Manipur Badminton Association (MBA) H Sanjeev Sharma.
