Watermelon festival begins

Bishnupur: A four day Gram Panchayat level Watermelon festival kick-started today at Sunushiphai, Bishnupur where ‘Watermelon’ was given a new local name, Eeru Etham.
The festival was organised so that farmers can utilise their free time and free fields to improve their economy by planting watermelons and named watermelon (Tarbuz) as Eeru Etham, reports our correspondent.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Phubala Gram Panchayat Pradhan Moirangthem Ibocha Singh, 6 Thinungei Zilla Parishad member Thokchom Nimai Singh, Thinungei Gram Panchayat Pradhan Oinam Joy Singh and social worker N Nandeshwor Singh as dignitaries.
At the event organised by Farmers Club, Sunushiphai and Ideal Mothers Association, Sunushiphai, the president of the Farmers Club L Shyamkumar Singh deliberated on the new name given to the fruit and mentioned that it was named according to the Meitei dialect after a series of analysis and discussion with experts.

Residential camp kickstarted

Bishnupur: Ahead of the ‘28th Maheiroi Hak Kanba Numit’ which will be held on May 28, a six-day residential camp kick-started today at Ningthoukhong Higher Secondary School.
Organised by AMSU Bishnupur District Committee, the camp was inaugurated by general secretary of AMSU headquarters Haobijam Chalamba hoisting the AMSU flag.
AMSU headquarters general secretary H Chalamba, CADA president RK Leima, Apunba Nupi Lup, Bishnupur District president L Pramo and AMSU, Bishnupur District Committee president W Somorjit attended the inaugural function as dignitaries.
H Chalamba said, “It takes dedication, discipline and hard work in every aspect of life to become a great leader”, reports our correspondent.

Campaign begins

Bishnupur: A three day street corner campaign against Child Labour was flagged off from Bishnupur Court complex by CJM Binny Ngangom today.
The campaign was organised by District legal Services Authority, Bishnupur and Child Line, Bishnupur under the supervision of Manipur State Level Services Authority.
CJM Binny Ngangom, Child Line Bishnupur Director L Pishak, programme coordinator of Child Line India Foundation East Region Centre Sabyasachi and Bishnupur police OC Rishikesh attended the campaign as dignitaries, reports our correspondent.

Praying ceremony held

Bishnupur: Ahead of the opening of a dance and music college at Moirang Khoiru Leikai, Bishnupur district, a prayer ceremony was held today at the Temple of Arts and Culture office.
Temple of Arts and Culture president Oinam Kerani Singh, founder Ak Sobhachandra Singh, teachers and students of the temple took part in the ceremony.
Ak Sobhachandra Singh stated that he inaugurated the Temple of Art and Culture institute in 2005 to develop Nat Sankritan, dance and music. He further stated that for the past 12 years, the temple has organised numerous workshops related to Nat Sankritan. The State Government has assured to provide all necessary measures, he stated and sought cooperation from the public while opening the college.

Non-issuance of e-certificates

Bishnupur: Even as the DC Bishnupur has issued an order to issue e-certificates, the Sub Divisional Offices and SDC offices specially in Moirang and Nambol are not able to verify and issue e-certificates due to unavailability of internet connectivity.
Speaking to our correspondent, SDO Moirang has stated that the e-certificates have been issued from their own private connection, reports our correspondent.
He urged the Department concerned to look into the matter and install the necessary facilities for proper internet connection.

Demands

Bishnupur: Terakhong Athletic Social and Cultural Organisation, Kumbi has urged the authority concerned to appoint teachers for Kumbi High School, one of the Government schools which has the largest number of students, conveyed a press release issued by the secretary of the organisation.
It stated that most of the teachers have retired and the school is facing shortage of teachers.
It further urged the concerned authority to appoint the required teachers.

Convention held

Bishnupur: Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union and All Manipur ASHA Workers Union organised a convention for discussing the lack of facilities, infrastructure and benefits entitled to the scheme workers of the State at INA Memorial hall, Moirang today.
MLA of Moirang AC, P Sharatchandra Singh, CDPO ICDS Project Sawombung, Imphal East, Ksh Subadani Devi, All India Anganwadi ASHA Federation general secretary Dr BV Vijayalakshmi Devi, MO took part in the event as dignitaries among others.
Numerous Anganwadi workers, helpers and ASHA members from all corners of the State also took part in the event, reports our correspondent.
Speaking at the event, MLA Sharatchandra assured that he would take up every necessary measures to improve the condition of the Anganwadi workers and helpers of the State.

Bishnupur: Manipur Pollution Control Board and KVIC Chairman and MLA of Oinam AC L Radhakishore Singh was felicitated today at Ngaikhong Khullen community hall, Bishnupur district.
Organised by Ngaikhong Khullen BJP Development Committee, the ceremony was attended by MLA Rashakishore Singh, Ngaikhong Khullen Development Committee president Th Basanta, ex-president of the committee T Thambalngou, BJP Oinam AC president S Tomba and advisor Th Mangi as dignitaries.

Construction begins

Bishnupur: Construction and re-enforcement of various river banks damaged by flood in Wangoo Awang Leikai, began today, under the supervision of Kumbi AC MLA S Bira.
Wangoo Mordern club secretary has expressed gratitude towards the MLA for beginning the repairing work and appealed the Department concerned to construct a retaining wall along the river banks since the areas come under Loktak affected areas.
