DESAM, ANSAM join hands for common cause

IMPHAL, Feb 9 : Perhaps for the first time, the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) and the All Naga Students’ Association, Mani-pur (ANSAM) today issued a joint statement and announced that the two student bodies will work in solidarity for a com-mon cause.

9 ‘martyrs’ set to be buried on Saturday

Imphal, Feb 9: The nine tribal ‘martyrs’ are set to be buried on Saturday, more than 160 days after they were killed while protesting the three ‘anti-tribal’ bills that were passed by the State Assembly on August 31 last. The decision, sources said, was taken today during a meeting convened by the UPF and KNO at KKL complex Churachandpur, and was attended by the JAC against anti-tribal bills, the JPO and Innpis.

GUWAHATI, Feb 8 : Efforts are on to pursue the Khaplang faction of militant group NSCN to once again embrace the ceasefire that it abrogated last year.
An eight-member team of the apex body of Nagas, Naga Hoho and Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO), is in Myanmar to talk to the Khaplang leaders for bringing them back to the negotiating table.

IMPHAL, Feb 7: Students and people from different commu-nities gathered today in huge number at the Centenary Hall, Manipur University under the banner of North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) in association with MUSU and KSA, and took out a candle light vigil to protest the ‘fake’ encounter killing of Chungkham Sanjit and Thokchom Rabina by Manipur Police Commandos in 2009.
