An untold lore
It was raining heavily, you could hear the rain splashing on the leaves, it was an endless sound, he stood contemplating with a blank stare, and seemed hours had passed. He didn’t like the rain; he preferred more of summer dryish weather. A thunder just jolted him,’ bloody monsoon’’ he said to himself, front of him was river flowing like mad with a low swishing sound, the river looked so humongous as if it had soul and it could sallow any thing that came its way. He hated every part of the rain, it was not his cup of tea, he said to himself.
But he wanted to cross the river to the rockier part of the forest; he considered it would be better there, well better than the swampy area. But he really couldn’t swim, he was not much of swimmer, I’m more of a thinker he thought, he prides himself as thinker. He had been thinking for a while of how to cross the river, but nothing changed it had been the same for the past hour so, he had been pacing around and trying to figure a way through. There were times when he hated his life so much but he was canny enough to find his way around, so he decided to wait for the right time like he always did. So he waited.
It seemed long enough for the rain had stopped and the sun was creeping out, it was late afternoon, some how it seemed more mellow with the slight breeze than the rather. He still waited now staring at his own shadow and soaking up the sunshine. You could still hear the river flowing; it seemed like a moment later when he heard some one coming stepping on water puddles.
He almost smiled to himself when he saw the frog; the scorpion gleaming black in color approached the frog.
Ah! Frog so where are you going? Asked the scorpion.
The frog seemed rather intrigued, the frog looked around and answered nonchalantly “ I’m going to cross the river’’
“Just as I thought Mr. frog, well I was just about to cross the river’’ said the scorpion, even though he knew the obvious answer, he was just playing about with the frog but what he really needed was to cross the river.
“Umm” mumbled the frog and still continued to look about as if someone was expected.
So frog if you are on your way to across the river, why don’t you take me along your back, in that way we both can reach the other side, added the scorpion in the most polite tone.
Why would I do that? Said the frog now finally being interested in conservation.
It would be absurd for me to carry a scorpion across the river and more over you are going to sting me said the frog.
Why would I do that, if I do that I’ll drown along with you said the scorpion.
The frog croaked, looking up at the sky. The frog itself is a mysterious amphibian, it changes from a tadpole with gills to a frog with lungs, it means changes to human understanding, which is a very positive thing, because we all know that every one changes. That’s what we do, we move on to a better platform, every thing we do be for our betterment; we change for a positive reason. The frog still croaked as if seeking some answer from an unknown source. It seemed awhile of the frog’s croaking and eventually the frog agreed to take the scorpion on his back. Some how it made sense to the frog because if he dies than scorpion will die with him and the scorpion would not want to die, but what did he know?
So the frog agreed and took the scorpion on his back and slowly moved towards the river.
The river still flowed in a scary manner, almost mad, “the gods must be angry” the frog said to himself. In the meantime the scorpion had an uneasy expression but he still clung on to the frog. It seemed fine for a while almost perfect you could say, as if everything was in its place. But half way through the river, the frog felt a scorching pain like death itself, it was like madness had struck the frog.
Yet the frog felt so helpless, all the frog could do was to ask the scorpion “ why did you sting me”
Well the scorpion answered, “it’s my nature “ and everything went blank.
