IMPHAL, Sep 17: Students of Manipur University today protested against a blunder committed by the varsity authority in the announcement of results of MCom (4th Semester) 2012 examination.
According to a student protester, the results of the said examination including the names of the top 10 rank holders were declared on September 7 last.
However a corrigendum issued by Controller of Examination Prof N Iboton on September 11 rectified the names of the rank holders, said the student who identified himself as one Henkhokei.
In the corrigendum, he added, the topper SH Timothy was replaced by Kh Vijayata Devi and Thangjam Gojen Singh while Timothy was placed in the 2nd rank.
Maintaining that such ridiculous goof-up and subsequent rectification have given an immense morale set back to SH Timothy, the protesting students warned that the MU authority must be held responsible if Timothy takes any extreme step as the incident has greatly embarassed him besides discouraging him.
The students also demanded for reistating Manipur University Students Union (MUSU) to look into such mistakes. The protesting students who initially staged sit-in-protest at Obelisk Square proceeded towards Centenary Hall where the 13th Convocation of the varsity was going on.
However, police escorted them towards Health Centre. The protesters held placards that read as ‘tampering/doctoring of marks is unacceptable’ and ‘maintain status quo in MCom result’.
Later, Dean of Students Welfare Prof Ratan assured the students to look into the matter in consultation with the VC.
It is so sad that even acedemic institution is also effected by such cheap and totally un academic attitude has effected our University.
