IMPHAL, Sep 21 : The United Naga Council (UNC)’s campaign for an ‘alternative arrangement’ continues.
After the last round round of tripartite talk held on August 31 involving the Government of Manipur, UNC leaders and Central Government in New Delhi, the apex Naga body in Manipur is on a consultation spree.
“A one day consultative meeting on ‘alternative arrangement’ for the Nagas in Manipur, pending settlement of the Indo-Naga issue, hosted by the Chandel Naga Peoples’ Organisation (CNPO) was organized by the UNC and the Committee for Alternative Arrangement, UNC at Japhou village, Chamdil (Chandel in Manipur) on September 19, 2012. More than 250 participants comprising of members of the Naga Parliamentary Forum, Naga Employees Federation, Church leaders, Tribe Presidents & Representatives, President & representatives of Naga regional (district) organisations, Naga frontal organisations, scholars and intellectuals took part in the consultation,” according to the UNC.
It further claimed that the September 19 event witnessed the presentation of the Naga people’s movement for alternative arrangement and also the proceedings of the four rounds of talk of the tripartite dialogue process. “Another important input of the programme was the presentation of the historical; political & legal; social, moral and intellectual legitimacy of the demand for an Alternative Arrangement outside the Government of Manipur,” added the Naga body.
General subscription and suggestions towards carrying forward the people’s movement for an alternative arrangement and on the next round of tripartite talk were also received from the participants.
The meeting drew out an agreement that similar exercise would be carried out by the tribe based organisations in their respective jurisdiction within the month of September, 2012 so as to update the masses on the status of the movement, added the UNC.
The 4th round of ‘tripartite talk’ involving Government of India, the Government of Manipur and the United Naga Council (UNC) on the demand for an “Alternative Arrangement” outside the Government of Manipur, pending settlement of the Indo-Naga issue was held at Hotel Ashoka, Delhi on August 31.
The Government of India was led by Ajay Chadha, Special Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and the government of Manipur was represented by its chief secretary D. S. Poonia, and other senior officials of the State Government. UNC was represented by the president, vice-president and the general secretary along with six other members.
According to the United Naga Council, the August 31 tripartite meet ended with the agreement that the next round would be held at an early date at a venue in the hills of Manipur.
UNC deserves great support and appreciation from all Nagas. It's the time now that Nagas should recognise their relentless and selfless work. They gain nothing for themselves by struggling for the Nagas. They simply dedicate their precious time and energy to stand up and fight for the rights of Nagas to be restored. They never cow down despite all the adversaries working hard to hunt them down.
Whoever speaks for Nagas right is targeted and treated as a criminal in Manipur. This is how GoI has been trying to suppress the voice of Nagas since 70 yrs ago. Now GoI is using Ibobi govt and Meitei civil orgs to suppress Nagas' right. In fact there is no reason at all for Meiteis to interfere in Naga issue.
Another gathering of only 250 criminals in the name of so call Naga political solution.More than 10000 Naga died for the sake of some round of talks.Next round of talk will be a JCO representing GoI, a Havildar representing GoM and Muivah (UNC).Being frustrated, they r trying to get cong. ticket 4 election.Being appointed as govt. officers under ST quota, ambitious of MLA with the help of corrupt money.Ah! a waning tempo!
The unique history of Nagas is that they do not have any written history as there is no ethnic group called Naga exited in the history. It may be remembered that the term ‘Naga’ comes from “Nangga”, which means “Naked”, given by the Assamese and popularised by the British. Now the term has been politicised by the underground thugs and UNC is an agent of it. So let them bark as long as they want.
Please allow as to go to Nagaland and stay there forever! We are not asking land from Manipur. It will be like the Israelites going out of Egypt to the promise land.
UNC.underwear nonsense council go back to nangaland stop creating nonsense in manipur.Nangaland is yours enjoy. AA BB CC supari kom kwa paan etc.etc.there.You are shouting in the wrong place shameless land grabber.Go to hell hebron puppies.
IM said, their talks with the GoI is at the highest level, without condition and in a third country. But now it's in a UNC's level demanding autonomy under the GoM. IM group butchered thousands of Nagas in the name of Naga Sovereignty. Wait, let them first accept some economic packages and come overground to live, and then we true Nagas will start to levy taxes upon them and punish them.
very interesting point raised by someone, if the tangkhuls and the kabuis (who are very similar to the valley meiteis and have been living together for thousands of years) are nagas (and therefore 'related' to even those naga tribes who have never been in contact with them) then how come the meiteis themselves aren't nagas ?? what is the basis of identification of nagas ?? if it is genetic, then there are many discrepancies ....if it is the sense of clothing in the ancient times, then no....

UNC's demand for more autonomy will be fruitful and served on a silver plater... but not in this existing political system. Regretted.
