UNC gives thumbs down to ruling MLAs

IMPHAL, Nov 13 : Saying that association with Ministers and Naga MLAs of the State’s ruling party and unmandated ADC Members is very damaging to the political position taken by the Nagas in Manipur, the UNC has categorically stated that no Ministers or MLAs of the ruling party and Naga ADC members should be welcomed in the Naga areas on the pretext of development, cultural or political programmes.

Due to the political posture of severing ties, there is a democratic process of dialogue in the form of the Tripartite Talk of the Government of India, GoM and the UNC on the demand for an Alternative Arrangement for the Nagas in Manipur.

However, there is no objection nor intent to disturb any development works in the Naga areas, the absence of which is one of the unmistakeable facts that calls for severance of ties. Development works can be supervised and monitored by the designated officials/professionals and also by the Naga public who are the stakeholders.

“However, no Ministers or MLAs of the ruling party of the GoM & Naga ADC members should be welcomed in the Naga areas on the pretext of development, cultural or political programmes”, the UNC said in a statement.

“We are not against any particular personality but the official positions they occupy which negates the political position of the Naga people. Therefore all Naga frontal, regional/district, tribe, range and village level organisations and individuals are directed not to entertain or associate with or confer recognition/provide public platform to the above designated persons”, the UNC conveyed.

Further all individuals and tribes are advised to stay away from the State sponsored Sangai Festival and other such programmes because the GoM seeks to project a picture of social harmony in contrast to the reality of “social divide” on communal line in Manipur which the Prime Minister of India had spoken about.
The regional/district organisations and tribe hohos will ensure that there is effective compliance of this directive in their respective jurisdictions, it added.

I am at lost laughing restlesly reading the message of UNC. On one side it is your people that were elected by you. On the other had it is you who are lotted. The GOM of Manipur is doing the same thing whether it be on the hills or in the valleys; whether it be developmental works or severe corruption. There is no discrimination, no less no more at any particular area. Now if you choose to sever ties with the agents of change means you choose to distance away from development. I would brand you as incompetent and frustated. It happens, if we closely look at personal level and people with such attitude rather prefer to lock themselves inside ratholes. My dear UNC bosses, the need of the time is to correct ourselves, the rest will follow suit. Correct your people, choose the right representative, be competitive, and come out and mingle with the world. Do not forget the childhood lesson you learn that men is a social being. Being an organisation of Harmony and change , why should UNC send out a message to your own people to stay away from Public platforms, Sangai festival etc . That will only disdain people from their liberty to stay happily and harmoniously. Rather it will newly create a new seed of hatred and a fabricated atmosphere of social devide amongst communities. Why creating ruckus time and again. Lets try to live harmoniously.
