Let’s clean up our house first

By L J Meetei
1. Introduction. India is one of the fast most developing countries. She is emerging into the global power apartfrom stokes she is holding in the South East Asia. But, people of this beautiful country have perception about the North East (NE) as primitive as stone-age. Few of Indians know that Imphal is the capital of Manipur and have doubt of existence of airport. People of NE are commonly known as “Chinky” by the rest of Indian (which is recently declared as unconstitutional word) and considered as soft targets, sexy and very open in culture as girls/women are concerned. Out of this region, people of NE are minority, low cast, backward cast, smaller in size and status.

2. In last few years, incident of sexual exploitations, sexual abuses and even human trafficking of student girls and working women of NE are seen rapidly towering in the crime index. In India, though such crimes are normal phenomenon and committed all over the places including metro cities. Question remains “why is it happen most with girls/women of NE ?”

3. After conducting a small research, some factors surfaced and are pointing towards the cause of the subject. They are highlighted below:-

a. General Perceptions of NE People by Rest of Indian.

i. Politically & economically weak.

ii. Minority in social status.

iii. Open culture.

iv. Junkies.

v. Backward caste.

vi. Use and throw item.

b. Working Girls/Women. Girls/women of NE in general could not secure good, respectable and high class jobs due to mainly above mentioned factors which are compounded by lack of qualifications and experiences. So, most of the girls/women are working predominantly in the following work places where they become soft and easy targets :-

i. Spa or Body Massage Parlour (almost every spa in India employed chinky girls).

ii. Call Centre.

iii. Sales Girl.

iv. Call Girls / commercial sex workers.

v. House Maids.

c. Fashion of Girls. Any new fashion reaches NE before Mumbai and Delhi. It is agreed that girls of metro cities clad with highly exposed mini skirt, short pants, mini and light top etc. But, it is observed that girls of NE clad with micro skirt/shorts and tops irrespective of places whether it may be public or private. One example for better understanding is that generally girls of metro cities wear shorts may be skirt or pant just above knees whereas girls of NE wear the same above thighs like an “Item Girl” in Hollywood movies. Few girls are so obsess with fashion; they prefer these micro outfits irrespective of weathers/seasons.

d. Lack of Security. Most of the NE girls are independent and away from parents and relatives. Trust worthy and protected friends circle are difficult to establish. So, they become soft and easy targets. People in turn take advance of the constraints and exploit them sexually all over the country sides.

e. Fantasy. It may be slightly difficult to digest with that quite an amount of NE girls have fantasy about Non Chinky boys not because of their status, security, money and power, yes for sexual satisfaction. So, whenever these girls are approached, they could not resist themselves. As a fall out, these boys don’t hesitant, in fact got motivated to approach NE girls whenever there is a chance.

4. Recommendations. After studying the above factors, we could make out what the real problem lies for increasing in sexual crimes with NE girls outside their region. Then, the next step is to avoid occurrence of such crimes in future which is the aim of this small article. Here, few recommendations are listed below :-

a. Maintain your dignity at all times.

b. Always keep in mind that people outside NE don’t have love and affection with you. They will just exploit and betray you. Keep yourself away from them.

c. Fashion should be for comfort but not for seduction.

d. Look for secured place rather than a cheap accommodation.

e. Try and stay in group.

f. Pick up only professional jobs not menial ones.

g. Parents/guardian’s strict advices and regular visits.

h. Do everything by all means to bring justice if unfortunately become victim of the crime.

5. Conclusion. Though the fact remains the beauty of NE girls is always admired by every one of all communities. Their skin is milky, hair is long & gad black and slim figure. If you expose them more than appropriate, everybody will be tempted. And boys are roaming like hungry lion. So, sincere appeal for all NE girls is to learn the above factors and share with their beloved friends to keep them away from such criminal crimes. You have morale responsibility to live up with our culture, traditions and respect. Girls please mind it - One erroneous step will really destroy you.
