UCM worried about recurrence of ethnic clash

IMPHAL, Nov 16 : The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has expressed serious concern about possible recurrence of Naga-Kuki clash of the early 1990s on account of the renewed campaigns for Naga integration and Kuki State being spearheaded by the United Naga Council (UNC) and the Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC) respectively.

Briefing media persons at their office this evening, UCM president Y Nabachandra noted that the people of Nagaland are hopeful for a solution to the 15 years old political dialogue between Government of India and NSCN-IM and UCM is no less happy.

However, UCM would not accept any peace deal between GoI and NSCN-IM if it goes against the interest of any other community.

Whereas Manipur based UNC has been demanding an alternative arrangement for Nagas of Manipur, KSDC is vigorously pursuing a separate Kuki State.

Both the UNC and the KSDC have been blaming the valley people for denying their due shares of economic development and it is on this ground both the parties have been trying to justify their demands.

But the territorial demands being made by UNC and KSDC are overlapping. As such, the two parallel demands have all the potential to result in a bloody confrontation.

Manipur have witnessed a number of bandhs and blockades but it did nothing positive except misery to the mass.

UCM is not an exclusive organisation for any particular community.

UCM has toured extensively to every nook and cranny of Manipur and one can notice all the signs of underdevelopment and lack of basic infrastructure a little distance away from Imphal city.

Protest demonstrations have been seen in different parts of the State, both in the valley and hills about absence or shortfalls in basic infrastructure such as roads, education, health care etc.

To address this ubiquitous problem of underdevelopment, UCM would like to sit down and work hand in hand with all civil society organisations of the State, Nabachandra stated.

thutei

divide n rule policy of the thiteis hs started again. they r trying to act as the money between two fighting dogs

Kuki

Shit,, UCM is an obnoxiou little weed and the CM of manipur is a coward and a no less a money eating machine...does not care what people needs,, they are just trying to turn kuki Vs Nagas... Lets say why not kuki and naga Vs Meiteis??

Gaidon

GoI's 'divide and rule' policy is exactly inherited by meiteis. Now GoI has stopped playing this policy because it is proving to be a shame for India. They are now seriously looking forward to restore peace in the region, and quite willing to help the oppressed and unreached people if there is no dominant community like Meiteis stand on it way. But Meitei in Manipur never stop blocking any movement of the hill people. Central govt is not allowed by Meiteis to help the people of the remote hill areas of Manipur. But not only that. Meiteis think that 'divide and rule' policy is very important to preserve Meiteipur Integrity. They think that without shattering the unity of different tribes of Nagas and Kukis and without constantly keeping the Nagas and Kukis divided, meiteis are going to be helpless on the protection of meiteipur integrity? But there are questions that they can never answer. Why would Meiteipur integrity important for the hill people? To preserve Meitei history which knows the hill people as their slaves or servants? To continue to bear open discrimination and insult? To be totally controlled? To continue to remain fighting? Do the hill people depend anything from Meitei? Why should they restrict separate administration for better governance to speed up development in the hill areas? GoI is willing to do good things for the hill people but Meiteis are blocking it, why?

The media world has taken a sharp turn towards the darker side in influencing its people, they have disabled the root of positive media which will take the country and its people forward.... and are now given their own tunes according to their favor and business interest. In a country like India where Corruption articles give no space for other constructive information to be published; TSE represent the best example of such corrupt one sided media in the country. Reader's needs to filter the information in the news articles base on some reliable source before taken any consideration on any sensitive issues.
