Sir,
Reading your article pricked me in ways more than one that I'm compelled to write this letter to you today. I have not come across such a supremely sexist view in any article published in a mainstream newspaper.
Before I start with the sexist part, kindly let me know what "small research" did you do to come to your conclusions. Did you interview any non NE person in the metro cities of this country and ask for their views on NE girls? I maybe mistaken but I'm pretty sure that your write up was nothing but a rant to air your chauvinistic, tunnel vision of a perception of NE girls.
You wrote that non NE girls wear skirts/pants just above knees whereas NE girls wear them above thighs. What a remarkable observation indeed! Even I, a typical NE girl, who has lived and worked in a metro city failed to notice the difference. I remember NE girls wearing skirts/pants( of variable lengths and fittings) and believe it or not, salwar kameez too! And so did the non NE girls. Your views on the sexual fantasies of NE girls about non NE boys gave me a chill down the spine. You even went on to say the girls cannot resist themselves when approached by these boys! So you think NE girls are a bunch of nymphomaniacs in skimpy clothes hanging from trees lusting for non NE boys.. Maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit, but it's pretty much the picture I have on mind on reading your article. Quite a sick perception you have of our girls, I say. And you complain about the mainland guys' mentality. Ironic.
I also do not quite agree with your opinion that people outside of the NE have no love and affection for us. There are quite a number of broad minded people out there who respect us for who we are and are not biased. Maybe you have not met any such nice people, or maybe you were too stuck up with your bitterness about them that you couldn't notice it. My point is, it is not fair to club everyone under a label. And certainly not all boys are "roaming like hungry lions" to pounce on NE girls at the slightest chance. Sexual harassments, molestations, rapes occur everyday in Delhi or in NE. Any girl, regardless of what she's wearing can be targeted and not just NE girls.
Your views about our girls are so sickening I'm worried how many of our lads think that way. I don't know what psychological/emotional trauma you have experienced in your personal life that made you so bitter, but I won't be surprised if it involved an NE girl who you liked running away with a Punjabi stud.
Do learn to open your mind to the world. Don't keep to yourself because there are bad things and bad people. If you do, you will not get to experience the good things either. Lastly, let me tell you this- next time you write, kindly tone down the sexist element a little bit. I know you meant well but your article backfired because of the sexism.
Yours faithfully,
Vijaya, Email: docvizzy@gmail.com
Well said Vijaya. These pseudo intellectual idiots should be shown their right place under the sun.
it seems that the reader is not understanding the message conveyed in the article. there are always few exceptions. It is clearly seen that the writer is trying to tell you that " Talli ek hat se nahi bajte". So, he is not pointing towards a perticular gender, cast, etc. he is recommending few aspects because the writer probably wants to disseminate what all is going on the subject issue and to rise preventive measures for betterment of NE girls.
Vijaya, Dont take it -vely.Only point I wanted to bring out is that "Let us aware about sexual crimes and take concrete steps to avoid to become a victim". Is there any wrong perception in it? As every NE boy staying outside thinks, I also dont repeat dont want to learn any news about sexual crimes on NE girls. They are all my sisters and I love them. Its all about their protection, well being, secured, that's all. I cant see tears on my sister's eyes, i really just cant stand. Thank you and God Bless You.
Thank you for puting ur good truthful points. I just cnt understand why our home boys r so racial. Pls write again n tell them not to point their fingers at us. Let the boys stop thinking about the welfare of the girls. Women society, parents society and the girls society can think of the welfare of the girls. Who are this racial boys/males to point fingers at us? Pls write to shut their mouths.
I have heard about 'crocodile's tears' but now i think there is also something like 'crocodile's feelings'. Pls dnt be racial minded. Why dnt you talk of protecting all female gender? Why only manipuri/NE girls? Is it not the duty of men gender to protect and care female gender, irespective of their race?
