India-NSCN IM talk and its complications

The peace talk between Govt of India (GoI) and NSCN IM has been going on for decades, and all over its long years, it has done is nothing but creating a divide between the meiteis, nagas and kukis. The issue has created such dark moments that it even leads to loss of lives. It is imperative to have a look on the possible complications of the peace talk, one, despite the fact that GoI and NSCN IM are the two parties directly involved in the talk, it affects the territory of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal and secondly, the social organisations like UCM, AMUCO, Kuki Inpi have firmly stood their positions. So, what’s important is not only Gol and NSCN IM; what’s more important is ‘what the stand of the social organizations are’, that would have a final say. Afterall, what’s that democracy when people with arms are respected and people without arms are ignored.
There are some 35 tribes inhabiting Manipur, some 16 in Nagaland and everyone of them claim to have their own unique history, that seems to be so different from each other. But, when recent NE exodus happened, mainland Indians did not spare you for being nagas, kukis or meities, when the actual conflict was between Assamese Bodos and Bangladeshi. So, when we differentiate ourselves so much, we are just one and only one in the eye of the others. What’s so unique about speaking a particular dialect? that’s what every human does; what’s so unique about having a small area / village under chieftain control or wearing a particular dress or necklace?- that’s what every human does. Unique history of the nagas is the history of human civilization. When political space is being developed either in the form of greater Nagaland or Supra state based on this so called unique history, there is every possibility that it is bound to interfere with people living either with you or around you. No other issue has created so much social uncertainty in the north east as the naga issue does.
On one hand, we really are not giving enough time and space for discussing the real threat the people of north east are facing. North east is the little unlucky India, which does not go along the same line with mainland India, when it comes to terms of development. North east also face the threat of migrants both legal and illegal, that can outnumber locals anytime in near future; unless Govt fails to employ effective measures. While the issue that should concern the nagas, the kukis or the meiteis is the fast increasing migrant population, the unfortunate thing is that we seem to be engaged in ‘territorial exclusion talk’ between ourselves while we seem to be accepting the non-locals.
With regard to Nagaland’s MLA’s readiness to vacate their positions to facilitate India-NSCN IM talk, I would put this way “every states are like human and every human would welcome land or money offered to him or her”. The same Nagaland legislature would not vacate their positions to facilitate the demand of ENPO for a separate eastern Nagaland. Questions can also be raised to the GoI. Does GoI not study the inter-ethnic complications of the peace talk? Or has GoI studied enough the suffocating outcome of the talk and still moving forward? Recently, India’s home ministry questioned CM of Manipur, “What’s the harm in giving alternative arrangement to the nagas?” It seems to be an indicative of GoI recognizing the so called ‘naga’s unique history’. Then many questions can be raised like ‘what’s the harm in giving sovereignty to Manipur as demanded by Manipur based outfit because their demand is also based on ‘history’ as well? What’s also the harm in accepting ULFA’s demand which is also based on history? Also what’s the harm in allowing administration of Kashmir merging with Pakistan, while its territory remains with India? India’s territorial integrity fails to make sense when Kashmir and Pakistan are brought under one administrative umbrella. Similarly, Manipur’s territorial integrity fails when the so called ‘naga inhabited areas’ is administered from Nagaland. Leaving aside all these, I, however, would put a simple question “what’s the harm in reading the history of Manipur, when infact, India’s home minister is dealing with Manipur?’. As for Manipur’s territoriality and administration, and influx of migrants, we have full faith on Government of Manipur that it would not fail to protect Manipur and its interest.

Why many Meiteis are always spreading hatred among different communities of Manipur? Do Meiteis consider spreading hatred and communal write up as patriotic and protection of Manipur Integrity? Completely one sided, disrespecting and divisive write up is not at all appreciable. At least make sense when you write something. Don't insult other people, don't act like you are the hero. Peace is important for the goodness of all people but peace can't be brought by spreading hatred and disrespecting your neighbours. This kind of write up only deepen the wound in the relationship. Respectful and constructive write is the need of the hour. One sided write up and insulting others' history should be stopped at once for the sake of peace, co-operation and prosperity among neighbours.

Uniqueness of Naga history says it is not part of India union, neither it was a part of Assam, Arunachal, Manipur and Burma. What is so wrong if Naga wants to live as a single entity. Meitei though themselves to be a supreme being. Why to be so proud of mixed bengali culture. You practise untouchability - a copycat. We are not demanding anything from you. Unique history of the Nagas has nothing to do with the meitei. It simple means Nagas are the owner and master of Nagas land. And they were never part of India union. GoI is not a fool like you.
