IMPHAL, Jan 19: Shumang Leela Ningtham Kumhei 2012 which was put off indefinitely following the Chandel outrage after staging just two plays would resume from January 24 at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen under the aegis of Manipur State Shumang Leela Council.
Speaking to media persons today, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council secretary Hemanta regretted that the annual Shumang Leela festival which started from December 17 was put off indefinitely because of the Chandel outrage.
The festival is being resumed as it is an annual calendar event even as people and civil society organisations have been undertaking different modes of agitation demanding punishment of Livingstone. Hemanta appreciated the State Government’s as well as all political parties’ efforts such as release of Livingstone’s photograph, exerting pressure on New Delhi to get the accused arrested etc.
Informing that there are 10 plays which are yet to be shown, he informed that different awards would be distributed at the end of the festival apart from selecting the best plays.
In accordance to sequence of the schedule worked out earlier, the remaining plays would be staged everyday at 2 pm.
He added that the ongoing agitation would continue until Livingstone is arrested and punished according to law.
