Transport fare
IMPHAL, Jan 19: As a part of their Eikhoi Lairik Ningthina Tamshi campaign, MSF has decided to adopt certain regulations on transport fare of students. For this, the student body has asked all representatives of students and transporters to come and share their views and opinions at MSF office between January 25 and 30.
Speaking to media persons at its office today, MSF vice president Md Serajuddin said that MSF was compelled to adopt more binding and stringent regulations as there were many reports of transporters charging the same rate of fare on students in uniforms who have their identity cards slung around their necks just like common travellers/passengers.
There were also reports of vehicles not stopping on seeing students signalling to stop.
The MSF earlier decided that students going to and coming back from educational institutions should be charged reduced fares as compared to other people. However, as against this decision, transporters and drivers have been charging the same rate of fare on students as charged on other people.
For this reason, MSF would like to appeal to all the representatives of passengers as well as transporters’ union to come to MSF office and share their views and opinions on the matter so that a collective decision can be adopted on travel fare of students, Serajuddin said.
Appealing to all drivers not to avoid students signalling for stop, he said if any- one comes across such practice by any driver of public carriers, they may call on 9862485311.
Aheibam Boynao, another functionary of the student body cited that the charges for cutting hair and beard as fixed by the Labour Department are Rs 20 and 10 respectively.
Observing that it does not mention anything about concession for students, Boynao appealed to the Labour Department to provide certain concession for students.
