Ningol Chakkouba Handloom & Handicrafts Expo 2019 starts

IMPHAL, Oct 17: The Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans CS Ltd (AWAS) kicked off Ningol Chakkouba Handlooms & Handicrafts Expo 2019 at Gandhi Memorial (GM) Hall, Imphal today.
Principal Secretary (Textiles, Commerce & Industry) P Vaiphei, president AWAS K Indira Devi, Assistant Director (Design) Weavers' Service Centre Imphal East C Rajasekaran, Assistant Director Handicrafts Service Centre, Porompat Th Rajen Singh and assistant manager (Commercial) National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd Imphal Y Shantikumar Singh attended the event as presidium members.
Speaking at the inaugural event, AWAS Board director Sougrakpam Bhuban said that people of the State should promote locally made handloom products.  Talking about the uniqueness of the products, he mentioned that Moirang Pheejin (Moirang Phee), Wangkhei Phee, Shaphee-Lanphee etc are protected under the Geographical Indications Registration Act 1999.
Speakers at the event urged people of the State to buy local handloom and other products as gifts for their near and dear ones on Ningol Chakkouba.
The exhibition will end on October 28.
