Memorial stone unveiled at Kpi

KANGPOKPI, Oct16: Ahead of the centenary celebration of Anglo-Kuki War 1917-1919 at C Aisan village in Saikul sub division of Kangpokpi district tomorrow, Kangpokpi denizens unveiled a monolith erected to commemorate the event today.
The monolith was erected as part of the directive of Kuki Inpi Manipur in commemoration of the Anglo-Kuki War 1917-1919 by Kangpokpi Town Committee.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by ADC Sadar Hills Chairman, Haokholal Hangshing, KIM advisor Lunpi S Thangjom, KTC chairman, Lunseh Kipgen and KTC members, KWWO and KYU apart from the public.
Approximately the 10 feet tall monolith inscribed with the controversial words, “In defence of our ancestral land and freedom” was unveiled and dedicated by Rev K Hangshing, Chairman, Kangpokpi Town Churches Fellowship in the presence of other dignitaries.
A traditional gong, Dahpi, in local dialect was beaten 100 times during the inaugural ceremony while a minute silence was observed in honour of Anglo-Kuki War heroes.
ADC Sadar Hills Chairman and KIM Advisor stressed on the importance of Anglo-Kuki War and motivated the present generation to uphold the sacrifice made by their forefathers in defence of their ancestral land and freedom.
Rev K Hangshing while dedicating the monolith said that the monolith erected at Kangpokpi DHQs following the directive of Kuki Inpi Manipur in commemoration of the great Anglo-Kuki War has been dedicated with prayer and it shall be respected.
Traffic movement along the National Highway was partially disrupted during the function.
