One-day awareness programme on 'Traditional Embroidery Cluster' held at Khongjom

Thoubal, Oct 17: A one-day awareness programme on 'Traditional Embroidery Cluster' under SFURTI, KVIC New Delhi sponsored by Ministry of Micro, Small, Medium and Enterprises (MSME), GoI was organized by Wangjing-Tentha Farmers' Development Association (WATEFADEAS) at its office complex, opposite to Khongjom PS in Thoubal District today.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief functionary of WATEFADEAS and former minister Moirangthem Hemanta said that the project taken up by WATEFADEAS under MSME  scheme will provide benefit to about 450 women from 12 villages under Wangjing-Tentha AC who are engaging in weaving, embroidery and tailoring.
He continued that the project was taken up on a total cost of Rs 1.32 crore with the objective to provide raw materials to the weavers and artisans, to provide marketing support and to produce traditional products.
90 percent of the investment will be borne by the GoI while WATEFADEAS will bear the 10 percent of the total investment, he added and said that such project will help to enhance the income of the women weavers and artisans.
About Rs 28 lakh has already been invested in the said project by the GoI, he maintained.
Hemanta further said that new and efficient machine will arrive at Common Facility Centre, Khongjom from foreign countries in November this year.
Apart from Chief Functionary of WATEFADEAS, Moirangthem Hemanta, the awareness programme was also attended by social worker P Ibohal, retd teacher S Meino Singh and president of Fish Farmer S Kunjo Singh as presidium members.
Weavers in large numbers from different parts of Wangjing Tentha AC were also present in the programme.
