IMPHAL, Oct 17: At least 22 personnel of Manipur Police and Manipur Rifles who are undergoing training at Manipur Police Training College (MPTC), Pangei have been hospitalised at JNIMS after consuming fermented soya bean dish (chagempomba) procured from the family line canteen which is opened inside the premises of the training college.
The number of Manipur Police and Manipur Rifles personnel who fell ill after consuming the dish may go up as more recruits might have consumed the particular dish.
Those Manipur Police and MR personnel who have been brought to JNIMS were suffering from continuous headache, vomiting and diarrhoea, among other health problems.
Speaking to reporters, some of the personnel said that they started experiencing certain problems like headache, vomiting and diarrhoea after they consumed soya bean dish (chagempomba) procured from the family line canteen yesterday.
It was said that two more personnel were being brought to JNIMS as they too were suffering from similar health problems.
Meanwhile, some police personnel and their family members who do not want to disclose their names expressed strong resentment on the failure of the MPTC authorities and Food Safety Department to check the food items that are being sold at the family line canteen. Saying that MPTC is the only police training centre in the State, they expressed keen desire for Food Safety Department to regularly check the food items being sold inside the premises of the college.
Further stating that police personnel who undergo training at MPTC buy food items and other eatables from the family line canteen, they also cautioned that many more problems related to food  may occur in the future if the authorities concerned fail to regularly check the food items being sold inside the premises of the police training college.
