St Anthony, SRWC become champions of 23rd Sr State Basketball C'ship

IMPHAL, Oct 18 : St Anthony, Chingmeirong were crowned women's champions at the 23rd Senior State Basketball Championship organised by Manipur Basketball Association at Nahabam Basketball Court while SRWC, Sega Road were able to earn the men's title.
In the women's final staged today, St Anthony thrashed BSC, Bamon Leikai 44-19 to win the title while SRWC, Sega Road thrashed LMYVA 89-54 to take the men's crown.
Women's Final
Caroline Pao produced a fine scoring performance to collect 16 points for St Anthony while her team mates Leishime and Hiron ably assisted her and fetched 10 points each to steer their team to a huge win against BSC. Chonchon also added 6 points for the winning side while her team mate Ancylu Pamei fetched 2 points.
BSC on the other hand, fetched the meagre 19 points  with the help of Sophia (8), N Niklen (6) and Sangita (5).
Men's Final
The men's final match saw LMYVA lead the first period but SRWC made a huge return in the remaining period as Jackson collected 38 points to ensure the 89-54 thrashing.
Dr SK Markanin also managed 29 points for SRWC in this one sided match besides Romen (12), David Maishnam (4), Thoiba Salam (3) and Shashilachi (3) finding their names on the scoresheet. Kemlin (35 pts) on the other hand led the scoring for LMYVA while Ojit (8), Tutu (6) and Borish (5) managed single digit scores to make it 54 points.
The valedictory function of the tournament was graced by Health and Family Welfare Minister, L Jayantakumar; Education Minister, Th Radheshyam and L Radhakishore Singh, Chairman Manipur Pollution Control Board as dignitaries.
