Pork eating competition marks 3rd day of Shirui Lily Festival

Ukhrul, Oct 18: Pork eating competition marked the Day 3 of Shirui Lily festival at Heritage ground Vangayan Shirui village.
Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly Yumnam Khemchand attended the function as   chief guest and expressed that peace has restored in the state after BJP Govt led by N Biren Singh came into power.
The speaker also mentioned that the relations between the people of hills and valley has improved a lot with the elevation of Shirui lily festival to state level in 2017.
Y Khemchand stated that the 'Shirui Lily festival' has a scope to become world class eco-tourism festival.
Shiva Chandra, Convener Act East Policy, stressed on the need of introducing cable car for the weak and aged persons to climb Shirui mountain to see lily that blooms during the season which will attract more tourists or visitors generating substantial income.
Meanwhile, the Tangkhul traditional pork eating competition was held at Heritage ground.
The winner of the pork eating competition, Thanshok consumed about 1kg of pork within three minutes.
A total of ten persons participated in the competition.
In the voice competition held yesterday, Sam Gangte from Imphal West, M Premjit Meitei from Thoubal, Danison Moirangthem from Imphal East, Peimichon Rumthao from Ukhrul, Gaisuipou Gonmei from Tamenglong, Kaichung PH from Imphal West, Supriya Laimayum from Imphal West, Asherie Haokip from Imphal East, Jelish Mungleng from Ukhrul, M Nongthang from Imphal East, Dziipani Athiisi from Senapati, Nelson Irom from Imphal West and N  Sanjeev from Imphal West took part in the competition.
In Shirock Band Competition, Pantocrator from Meghalaya, Chasing Proxima from Manipur, Lynx from Megalaya, Innocent Eyes from Manipur, Larger Than 90 from Meghalaya, Oking Band from Manipur and Paper Sky from Nagaland performed at Bakshi ground.
It might be mentioned that Miss Spring 2019, beauty pageant of the Shirui Lily festival grand finale will be held later today at TNL ground Wino Bazar, Ukhrul.
Altogether, 19 contestants from five tribes of Manipur would vie for the coveted title while a host of Manipuri actresses from Imphal and Tangkhul artistes will perform at Shirui Lily Nite at Shirui village.
An exhibition football match was played between Manipuri Stars against Ukhrul United Football Club at Shirui village ground.
Somatai Shaiza, ex-MLA candidate attended as guest of honour while the programme was attended by Sharda Devi, vice president BJP Mahila Morcha accompanied by Linda Newmai, Shiva Chandra sharing the dais.
