IMPHAL, Oct 18: Demanding an apology from Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for his disrespectful comments about All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi, several MLAs, ex MLAs and office bearers of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) staged a sit in protest in front of Congress Bhawan, BT Road, Imphal, today.
During the protest demonstration led by former Chief Minister, Okram Ibobi and MPCC president Gaikhangam, some of the Congress workers tried to torch the effigy of Manohar Lal Khattar, however police personnel deployed at the area managed to stop them and picked up the effigy following a brief stand off .
Later, the party workers brought a new effigy of  Haryana Chief Minister and burnt it in front of Congress office by locking the main gate of the Bhavan.
Speaking to media persons after the incident, Gaikhangam said that MPCC strongly condemns Manohar Lal Khattar for ridiculing someone (Sonia Gandhi) who had contributed immensely for the development of the country.
Making such unparliamentary statement in public is a shameful act, he lamented and urged the Haryana CM to apologise to Sonia Gandhi at the earliest.
