Kicking up issues at this point: Final pact by Oct 31?

    30-Oct-2019
Final agreement by October 31. Lock out called by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity, a group made up of various civil society organisations of Manipur and an artmosphere of tension and uncertainty. And amid this comes the announcement from a gentleman that Manipur has separated from India and even formed a Manipur State Council. This is madness. Maybe driven by private or personal reasons to come out and deliver such a statement ? Must have evoked guffaws from all around. And making things more ludicrous is the fact that some media houses have gone ahead and given it publicity. What is Manipur coming to is then the question that follows. Here is a real threat  to the existence of a State as a geo-political entity and here is a gentleman shouting that Manipur is no longer part of India. Being in the media, what this man has said makes news for it is not always that one can announce such a statement in the public forum, but this is madness and adding to the confusion all around. And what makes up the Manipur that this gentleman is referring to, especially when one is worried about the existence of Manipur as a geo-political entity ? Maybe these are questions that one may address to this said gentleman.
The bigger issue is obviously the ongoing peace talk between the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India. One only hopes that the peace talk is taken to its logical conclusion without affecting Manipur in any way. From territorial integrity, the call of the people has gone on to  saying a big no to anything that may involve the administration of the State. This is where apprehension has been raised on the possibility of bypassing the State Government and giving some sort of an autonomy to the Naga dominated areas. These are all concerns dogging the State and the people right now. And even as different talks are doing the round on the possible fallout of the peace talk, it would do good for the NSCN (IM) and the Government of India to stop feeding misleading news to the media. The NSCN (IM) has always been known how to handle the media, but it is at this time they should pull up their socks and see how to go one better. Same thing goes for the Government of India too.
