IMPHAL, Nov 10: Congress MLA AK Mirabai has conveyed that there is no point in being an MLA or a people's leader if the integrity of Manipur is compromised, adding that she will even resign from her post if the worst comes true.
She made the statement on the sidelines of an alert meira rally organised by Meira Paibis last night condemning any attempt to harm the State as a result of the Indo-Naga peace talks. Initially, the womenfolk had organised the rally and attempted to storm the residence of the MLA at Taobungkhok.
However, the MLA herself joined the protest and even took part in the rally.
Speaking to the people, she expressed strong opposition against any attempts by the Central Government to create divide among the indigenous people who have been living together in the State since time immemorial, and assured to support and take part in the initiatives taken up by the people in the future against such communal politics.
She conveyed that there is no use in staying as a people's representative or leader if the integrity of Manipur is compromised and added that she will resign from her post if such a situation comes.
The MLA also strongly opposed any attempt to pass an anti-indigenous people Bill in the State.
On the other hand, Patsoi Block Congress Committee, under the aegis of COCOMI, organised an alert sit in protest at Yengkhom Leirak community hall today, during which the MLA (Mirabai) was also present as well. Following the sit in, a human chain was also formed and the people raised various slogans demanding against any impact to the State due to the Naga political issue. A rally was also organised from the site upto Tera bazar.
During the protest Mirabai demanded the BJP State Government to convene a special Assembly session and pressure the Centre against taking any decision which will hurt the sentiments of the people of Manipur.
The BJP in the Centre and the State will have to bear the responsibility if the situation turns out for the worst, she warned.
