IMPHAL, Nov 24 : The 7th edition of State Level Senior Men Hockey Championship was opened today at Hockey Stadium Khuman Lampak with 6 teams clustered into two groups taking part in it.
The opening match (Group B) of the tournament being organised by Manipur Hockey saw SYUC, Kongba Uchekon thrash YCCIC, Ahallup by 7-1 goals. W Santosh opened up SYUC's account early in the 9th minute before L Mantosh scored two back to back goals in the 20th and the 31st minute to make it 3-0.
SYUC continued to press the Ahallup despite the three goal advantage and it was S Suresh who sealed the team's fourth off a penalty corner in the 34th minute while his team mate M Dhananjoy further extended the lead with a fine shot in the 39th minute.
YCCIC pulled back a goal in the 41st minute through Gajendra but it happened to be their only goals as S Amujao (52') and K Milan (56') scored to stretch SYUC's lead which lasted till the final whistle.
HU, Lairikyengbam Leikai will meet MLHU, Langthabal in a Group A league match tomorrow at 10 am in the second match before KHSC, Khongman take on YCCIC latter at 2 pm.
