Sr Men Hockey Championship: HU to meet SYUC in final showdown

IMPHAL, Nov 29 : The final line up of the 7th State Level Senior Men Hockey Championship which is underway at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium  was completed today with HU, Lairikyengbam Leikai and SYUC defeating their respective rivals in the semi-final matches.
The first semi-final match of the tournament saw, SYUC, Uchekon produce a dominating display to notch up a 7-4 win against SEYO, Singjamei. SYUC started strongly with M Sushanta scoring the opening goal in the second minute before M Dhananjoy converted a penalty corner while  Robinson N and K Milan scored a goal each in the same 14th minute  to set up a 4-0 lead till the end of first quarter against misfiring SEYO. The second quarter saw SEYO's N Amarjit put in a goal in the 20th minute and SYUC's M Dhananjoy grabbed his second in the 27th to make it 5-1.
SEYO grabbed their second in the 33rd minute with the help of G Dingku but the game was still very much in the hands of the Uchekon side. I Rohit of SEYO then made it 3-5 off a fine penalty corner in the 49th minute but SYUC bounce back with L Dipu scoring a fine goal to make it 6-3 in the 51st minute of the match. N Herojit helped SEYO with another goal in the 52nd minute but their effort was still far away from coming to level terms and to their disappointment M Dhananjoy clinched his third off a penalty corner and rounded off the scoring in the 59th minute.
Meanwhile in the other semi-final encounter, HU ran riot to earn a convincing 6-1 against YCCIC, Kontha Ahallup and a place in the final. Dhananjoy  and Ricky Tonjam were at their best to add two goals each en route to their huge win while Somikant Khangembam and Bipin added a goal each.
Dhananjoy set the pace of the game by scoring two of two goals (3', 14') in the first quarter while Ricky Tonjam fired home off a penalty corner in the 38th minute before Somikant scored the team's fourth the very next minute and made it 4-0 till the end of the third quarter.
The onslaught continued as YCCIC hardly resist and it were Ricky Tonjam and Bipin who added a goal apiece in the 56th and the 57th minute to hand HU an unassailable 6-0 lead. YCCIC grabbed the consolation goal in the 59th minute of the match through K Deveshor.
The two finallists will lock horns for the top honours tomorrow at 1.45 pm.
