NEW DELHI, Nov 29
MLAs from the North East Indian States on Friday staged a protest against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill at the Parliament grounds in New Delhi.
The dharna, staged by the Assam Congress MPs, witnessed the participation of Congress from the North East and other Opposition MPs, in front of Parliament, against the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Assam Congress leaders Ripun Bora, Abdul Khaleque, Pradyut Bordoloi, Shillong MP Vincent H Pala, were among the MPs who staged protests against the Bill today.
The MPs raised slogans and carried placards denouncing the Bill, which seeks to grant citizenship to the persecuted immigrants from neighboring countries.
It may be mentioned here that the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), a union of students’ bodies from all the eight North Eastern States, has also launched massive protests across the region to protest against the contentious Citizenship Bill. Delegates from the student body have also met regional as well as National leaders to seek their support to oppose the CAB.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that many leaders from the North East — including Tripura royal scion Pradyot Manikya — are slated to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in the next two days.
