IMPHAL, Nov 8: A large number of womenfolk from Uripok Mayai Leikai attempted to storm the residence of Deputy CM Yumnam Joykumar at Naoremthong today demanding an emergency Assembly meeting to be convened immediately and a firm resolution to be adopted in the interest of the State and its people.
At around 3.15 pm today, Apunba Yaipha Thourang Nupi Lup, Uripok Mayai Leikai, launched a rally towards Naoremthong against any impact to the integrity of Manipur as a result of the Naga peace settlement, disclosure of the settlements reached between the Centre and the Naga groups and for all the MLAs to adopt a firm stand in the interest of the State and its people.
The rally took a different turn when the womenfolk attempted to storm the residence of the Dy CM located at  Naoremthong. However, a large number of police personnel who were deployed at the area fortunately brought the situation under control and some representatives from among the protesters were allowed to advance further and meet the Dy CM.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, the womenfolk said that they relayed their demands to the Dy CM and urged him to do the needful.
The Dy CM assured that the issue of the special Assembly session will be discussed after Chief Minister returns from Delhi. However, this sort of answer was unsatisfactory to the people, the women lamented adding that they had wished for the Dy CM to make a responsible decision as well as provide an acceptable response as an elected leader of the people.
