NPP resolves to continue opposing CAB

NEW DELHI, Dec 1
The National People’s Party (NPP) in its National executive committee meeting in New Delhi on Saturday adopted a resolution to continue to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
The National executive committee meeting of the NPP was held at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi under the chairmanship of its National president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
The National executive meeting was attended by members of the party from different States, including Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tyngsong, Home Minister James K Sangma, former Chief Minister DD Lapang and a host of other leaders of the party.
During the meeting, the party also discussed measures to strengthen the party ahead of the council elections in the States of Meghalaya, Manipur and Tripura.
“The party has unanimously resolved to oppose CAB and this is not just the resolution of the NPP but of the people of entire North East and all the State Governments of North East and all the organizations,” said Conrad K Sangma.
“We are thankful to the Home Minister and Government of India for inviting political parties and different organisations of the North East to discuss the matter and for taking certain steps and measures to safeguard the interest of the people of region,” the Meghalaya CM said.
“However, we strongly feel that more steps and measures will be required to protect the rights of the indigenous people of the region,” he added.
Leaders from different states of the North East including Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Assam expressed their sharp opposition to CAB during the meeting.
They said the imposition of CAB in the North East will go against the aspirations of the people and will create problems and tensions in the region.
“The party remains firm on its stand against the CAB and adopted a resolution during the meeting to oppose the CAB in its present form,” the NPP media & communication cell said in a statement.
The National executive meeting also discussed on measures to intensify enrolment drive in different states of the country, reach out to youth, propagate and motivate the people to be party of the people’s movement of NPP. The other issues discussed in the meeting were publication of a quarterly newsletter Reform and to further intensify its communication network to promote the ideology and principles of the party, it added.
