IMPHAL, Dec 10 : Thadou Inpi welcomed the historic announcement by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Parliament yesterday assuring the extension of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system to Manipur.
A press release issued by secretary, department of information Thadou Inpi, GHQs maintained that Thadou Inpi had always supported the demand for implementation of ILP in Manipur, although it opposed the Bills introduced in 2015 as some clauses in the Bills were against the interest of tribal people of Manipur.
It can be recalled that Thadou Inpi General Headquarters issued a statement on October 30, 2016 in support of the resolutions taken by the Manipur State Assembly in 2012 and 2013 regarding the implementation of Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation 1873 (Inner Line Permit System) in Manipur.
On behalf of the Thadou community, Thadou Inpi lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in particular, for giving assurance hinting probable exclusion of North East States with ILPS, including Manipur, from the purview of the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2019.
Representatives from Thadou Inpi led by its president Lamminthang Kipgen, general secretary James Haokip, TSA secretary general Michael Lamjathang Haokip among others met Chief Minister N Biren Singh at his office today to share the happiness on the extension of ILP to Manipur and probable exclusion of the State from the ambit of CAB.
Now that the Inner Line Permit system will be implemented in the State, the common interests of all the indigenous communities in the State should be effectively protected from the demographic imbalance, owing to uncontrolled influx of illegal immigrants into the State, it added.
It appealed the Central Government and the State Government to implement the long overdue 6th Schedule of Indian Constitution in the hill/tribal areas of Manipur without further delay.
This will revive or strengthen the integrity of the State in the truest sense and take the State closer to permanent peace and greater heights in all spheres of development, maintained TSA, GHQs.
On the other hand, expressing profound gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, ILP Demand Committee has welcomed and lauded the announcement for implementation of Inner Line Permit in the State.
Speaking to media persons, ILP Demand Committee chairman Ibotombi stressed on the importance of being considerate about the sentiments of the people while forming the rules and regulations of ILP in Manipur and to set the base year at 1951.
