Shillong, Dec 22: The Assistant Education Secretary of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Pynshai Rani said that the student body will galvanise other pressure groups to impose its own Inner Line Permit (ILP) if the Centre refuses to implement the system in Meghalaya.
Rani said this during a public meeting held by the KSU at Tyrsad village under East Khasi Hills district yesterday to spread awareness about the dangers of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and also to stress the importance of implementing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.
In this regard, the KSU has resolved to continue opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019 while stating that it also continues to press for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) throughout Meghalaya.
Speaking at this same meeting, KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar said, “We will go to every corner of the Hynñiewtrep areas to raise awareness on the need for the implementation of the ILP in Meghalaya till the Centre accepts our demand.
“We will also stress the need for people to safeguard their own land and property, their culture and traditions even as the Centre ignores this long pending demand of the people of the State,” he added.
Referring to a resolution taken up by the State Assembly on the issue during a special session on the ILP, Marngar said that as of now, the KSU will wait and watch the actions of the State Government with regard to the resolution adopted by the Assembly to urge the Centre to implement the ILP in Meghalaya.
