‘Community should unite to prevent crime in society’

NORTH LAKHIMPUR , Dec 26: Awareness meet on the prevention of crimes in the society was held in Dejoo Panchayat office in Lakhimpur district on Wednesday.
Organized by the Lakhimpur Police in association with Silanibari Police Outpost the meeting titled ‘Let’s Prevent Crime’ discussed the need for public awareness and participation to prevent crime in the society.
The meeting was attended by Lakhimpur DSP Runa Neog, officer-in-charge of North Lakhimpur Sadar Police Station Aditya Deori and inspector-in-charge of Silanibari Police Outpost Rontumoni Kalita.
The speakers unanimously said public awareness is must if crimes are to be prevented in the society.
Speaking as the invited guest, senior journalist Farhana Ahmed spoke at length about the roles and responsibilities journalists have while reporting about crimes, especially related to children
Various ways of community participation, the active role of Village Defence Parties and women in preventing crimes were discussed in the meeting.
Crimes like violence against women, bootlegging from Arunachal Pradesh, human trafficking, child labour, child marriage was discussed in that awareness meeting.
Proper use of social media and empowerment of women in decision making were stressed in that meeting.
The meeting was attended by panchayat officials, teachers, students and women and the general public. NENow
