SHILLONG, Dec 26 : The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Thursday said that this is the right time for the government of India to reconsider the demand of Meghalaya to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state to tackle the problem of influx.
“We expect that the central government should also listen to the voice of the people of Meghalaya since we are facing so many issues with regards to influx for years,” KSU president Lambok Marngar said here today.
It may be reminded that the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly had, on December 19, unanimously passed a resolution during a one-day special session to urge the central government to implement ILP in the state in view of the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019.
It is expected that a delegation from the state government will be visiting New Delhi after the festive season to apprise the union home minister, Amit Shah of the resolution passed by the State Assembly.
Meanwhile, the KSU president said that the fight against CAA is still on not only in Assam but the other northeastern states as well. “We continue to have our public meetings and we will carry it forward; this is part of our awareness programme with regards to the CAA,” said Marngar.
The KSU president reiterated that since day one, the union has made its stand clear on the CAA. “We have made it clear; we cannot accept CAB (now CAA) as it invites more trouble to our state,” he added.
