Silchar, Dec 28: Condemning the arrest of its general-secretary Seram Herajit Singh by police, Assam Indigenous People Protection Committee (AIPPC) has appealed the authorities concerned to release the arrested person without any condition at the earliest.
The committee also threatened to lunch agitation if the demand is not met.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at Rongpur, Cachar Assam, AIPPC vice president said that S Herajit was arrested by a team of Silchar police while he was going out to repair his vehicle.
Claiming that Herajit was arrested for taking part in a protest against Citizenship Amendment Bill (now Citizenship Amendment Act), the vice president added that all the protest staged by AIPPC were democratic, however, the way he was arrested was 'undemocratic'.
Information-secretary of the AIPPC, Okram Lakhikanta Singh also claimed that as Herajit was arrested without a warrant, he should be released unconditionally at the earliest.
The committee has also resolved to launch different agitation, even filing a petition to the Supreme Court, if the authorities and Government concerned failed to entertain their demand, Lakhikanta cautioned.
