‘‘The Manipuris are full of courage and resource in emergencies. It will be remembered, and for the credit of the Manipuris should be placed on record, that about four years ago a small party of British officers went to a quarter of Imphal to shoot a leopard which had taken up its abode in the compound of a house there. The wounded animal sprang on one of the party inflicting injuries which proved fatal, and a casual passers jumped to the rescue, snatching up a bamboo with which he bedevilled the beast till it let go and ran away. The General Officer Commanding of the Manipur Field Force hereby gives orders to the subjects of the late Regent of Manipur that until further orders no person in the state of Manipur is permitted to possess firearms and swords, which must be produced before the Chief Political Officer within seven days from this notice. Any person found in possession of firearms/swords without permission after the issue of this order will be liable to punishment with death or transportation.
